Sputnik: Syrian Air Defense Intercepted 71 Cruise Missiles Launched by West - Russian MoD
The Russian Defense Ministry has commented on a joint US, British and French missile strike on Syria, which took place on the day, when the OPCW experts are set to start a probe into allegations of a chemical attack in Douma, a claim denounced by Damascus as a provocation.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that most missiles launched by the Western states on Syria had been downed by the Arab Republic's air defenses while approaching their targets.
"The Syrian air defense system has been conducting an anti-air fight," the ministry added.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Syria repelled the Western attack with air defense systems made in the USSR over 30 years ago.

Mission Accomplished??? Really??? Bravado on part with Trump...now it's Putin’s time to take the lead. The dance is just beginning... no real change will occur and No Mission Accomplished UNTIL Assad goes or he is victorious in Syria.
Putin got slapped like a ho,lol!!!!
Putin did not get "slapped." What happened is the Americans were allowed to do a military light show as part of the diplomatic process. US officials stepped out to far on a branch that was going to fall out from under them.
It's kind of like how one treats a drunken patron at a bar. Allow him to vent a little bit, make sure he doesn't hurt himself, and don't humiliate him because at that point he is to stupid to even know he is stupid.
Anon,
You are correct. No real change. This is likely part of the face saving process that Trump and the Americans are being allowed to carry out. He gets to claim mission accomplished. Now the OPCW experts can begin their work and perhaps we can ge to the bottom of this.
Bottom line: we've launched a military attack under even more questionable circumstances than that which led to the Iraq war. We've seen how that one worked out. Some just never learn.
He had to do it to show we have resolve even if are not 100% certain. Putin wasted 200 mercs to test us. Hopefully now we can move forward with peace talks with US at the table with our vulnerable NE corner. Now Russia Syria Iran alliance will have second thoughts about taking that prize. We must have reached a deal with Turkey.
This reminds me of e Iraq gas attacks on Iran ... overzealous field officer blasting away giving contery a black eye ... I'm not sure what's worse, Syrian defence department calling to find out if thay gassed (picked up by snoopers) or the fact that thay are set up to gas ... ether looks bad, both looks real bad.
Fusion,
I'm pretty sure any facilities that were destroyed, if any, were nothing of value and will simply be refurbished or rebuilt better than they were in short order. As the editor has correctly pointed out, the US position is not sustainable. I would add that I cannot be maintained. As I've been told, when in a hole, the first step is to STOP DIGGING!!
PORUS was/is spot on when he suggested we needed to get out. Unfortunately after the alleged chemical attacks he did a 180 on this, got himself into trouble with overheated rhetoric, and needed to step down in such a way that some modicum of dignity is still retained by himself and America. Allowing US and "allied" military forces to put on a light show of sorts accomplishes this. Now the negotiations can begin. I think its been reported that Russian forces have taken control of the area where the alleged chemical attack took place and UN inspectors will be brought in to investigate.
DJT gets to save some face, no real damage done to Syria that won't be fixed in short order better than it was before, and US gets to negotiate its way out of Syria with some preservation of dignity. Problem solved. Now are the crazies in the US who are itching for war with Russia smart enough to take the deal they've probably been offered? We shall see. I did correctly call it that the US military might be allowed to perform a light show. It seems I called it correctly.
I don't believe 71 missiles was down. This would mean that the defense has to launch hundreds of missile too....in a short time that's not credible.
Don’t blame poster
He just says what he is told today
Good little puppet
Fred,
I actually predicted that there would not be any American or allied military action taken against Syria. I did suggest that the US military might be allowed to do a light show. I suggested all of this in the days before the military action. As such, what I posted is nothing new as in "he just says what he is told today." Maybe you didn't completely read the posts.
"Good little puppet." Insults are not helpful. If you have something constructive to add, please do so. Other wise very respectfully don't waste my time.
Let's here we've launched a military attack on a foreign country based upon assertions that are questionable at best without any real evidence being presented other than essentially "because we said so." Also, the people who made the assertions don't exactly have a track record that would justify blind faith in anything they say. To me something appears terribly wrong with this picture.
JAC,
While we cannot "know" what happened unless we have real time inside information. The best we can do is follow multiple news sources, read and cross read carefully, and apply common sense and logic. I have always found it interesting how two people can study the same information, at the same time, and under the same conditions and come to completely different conclusions!!
While I do believe it is possible for the Russians to shoot down 71 cruise missiles this would mean a massive attack and I agree with your assertion that this probably is not credible. As of last night, reports indicated this was a very limited allied attack. I think America and our "allies" were allowed to conduct a light show, do a little chest thumping, and say we "did something." The Russians get to make the claim of shooting down 71 cruise missiles. Everyone gets to claim something to score a "win" and we get to move back towards negotiations. This is my "take" on this. We shall know more in the coming days/weeks.
Correct, Putin lost everything and gained nothing by this. No guarantees, no protection, no nothing, unveils to be under Putin's umbrella when it rains.
It was only a light show because Russia and Iran had their bluff called once again.
Remind the west to laugh next time Rusia gives a ultimatum.
I wouldn't be surprised if Norks start testing nukes Tommorow after Kim's seen first hand exactly how a superpowers "protection" guarantees work.
30 missiles per target is not small
Faz obviously 50% of the tomahawks were not shot down.
Have vodka on me
Putin will pick up tab
Becool: Allowed, allowed, allowed...
Poster is by far the most sympathetic Russian groupie posting in this blog.
You really think the only reason Trump ordered strikes is because he was allowed by Putin to do so..?
Bottom line is Trump threatened strikes; the Russians threatened to not only shoot those missiles down but to destroy there origins...
Trump called their bluff and Putin folded.
If Russia had retaliated and escalated the situation into a naval battle russia would certainty lose most of it naval/air assets(at least the ones in working condition)...
Allowed, smh...
Fred,
I don't drink vodka. I'm not important enough that any leader, US or otherwise would care about anything I have to say. If you are going to accuse anyone who disagrees with you of being a foreign agent, it's going to be rather difficult to have a frank discussion of this situation or pretty mufh anything else. As I stated, contribute something productive or stop wasting my time and talking points are not productive.
Fazmwn,
30 missiles per target!?!? That's an incredible waste of money for a light show that isn't going to make any difference except as a face saving measure for US officials who acted rashly and stupidly. I'm pretty sure nothing of value was hit and the Russians get to claim they shot down cruise missiles, a "win/win" all the way around. Now time to get to the serious negotiations except the US position is likely weaker now than it would have been had this light show not taken place.
I predicted well in advance that the US military might be allowed to conduct a light show. It seems I was right.
Now, as I discussed in my reply to Jac, unless we have access to inside information in real time we cannot "know" what is happening. The best we can do is to read and study multiple sources and try and apply common sense and reasonableness. The days and weeks ahead will reveal more information.
Russian propaganda. What else are you going to say? We support a guy who nerve gasses his own children and we just got our asses kick, after bragging to the world that your as powerful as the Americans. Ha, exposed mich?
""30 missiles per target!?!? That's an incredible waste of money for a light show that isn't going to..." -FAZman
You have to remember the Syrians and Russian lost money in expended ordinance.
They also lost some fairly expensive facilities.
If it were an all out war all the missiles would have hit their target.
The anti-missile defenses would have been targeted 1st. The next day would be a Turkey shoot. So mobbing the target was necessary to get some through because the constraint was that you could not take out the anti-missile sites, because then you would be hitting the Russians.
Different War and it is still Russians manning the air defenses from Korea to Vietnam to the Iraq War, to Yugoslavia to now.
Problem is the Russians by their own admission didn't launch a single missile!.
The Syrians also were firing blind after the attack and hit nothing.
So the Syrians lost the money by expending ordinance blindly.
Does a missile cost less, if the Syrians launch it?
Were the missiles bought on credit?
Will more credit be extended to them or will they do without?
The Russia-Iranians-Syrian-Hezbollah alliance expended ordinance and had expensive facilities destroyed.
In the future if the Syrians want to by reload on credit, they can buy a paltry system, but they will have to fore go by something else that they may need more like farm equipment. Not that the Syrians know how to use farm equipment (I know that for a fact).
Maybe the SA can hide behind Hassan Nazrallah's skirt?
B (e) (Im)poster,
Glad to see you can make it.
You must like military actions like this.
You get time & a half.
Not to mention that the Russian admit that they didn't fire a single round lol
