Zachary Keck, National Interest: How Taiwan Is Planning to Stop an Invasion by China
Taiwan’s military is scheduled to simulate defending the island from an invasion by mainland China.
The simulation will be part of Taiwan’s annual Han Kuang drills, which begin next week. Citing a statement by the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense, the Japan Times said that “Taiwan will simulate repelling an invading force, emergency repairs of a major air base and using civilian-operated drones as part of military exercises starting next week.” Although the exercise begins then, the Defense Ministry said that the main part of the drill will take place from June 4 to June 8. That part will consist of live-fire exercises practicing “enemy elimination on beaches.” The drills will also practice quickly repairing military air strips that would presumably be targeted by Chinese missile and aircraft early in a conflict.

More than happy if North Korea denuclearizes, stop building infiltration tunnels for an invasion, kidnapping hundreds of people, launching rockets, being bellicose, etc. So if Trump's sanction work and there is no war, VERY GOOD!

Without a Iranian, Islamic, Chinese or Russian threat I can see downsizing the military. I also can think of lots of way to spend money that might even make the greedy political class happy. I can think of many ways to spend my own money to go on vacations around the world.

You are giving the Chinese military to much credit. The last major war they got in, did not go so well for them (Vietnam).

I count 2 generations, but the definition seems to be 30 years equals one generation.
Many doctrinal, training, material and other changes could happen in the interim.

They threaten every neighboring country with war for no good reason non other then that the chinese believes they have the right to do so because those countrys belongs to china. They need to get on with it and get their bloody nose and loose. Because they will loose. The world would finally turn against them for being the "nazi" country they are. They have concentration camps for christ sake! They have voted a dictator for life! They infiltrate the electronic business with spyware! They launch hacker attacks on everyone! They steal patented technology and sell them back as cheap knockoffs!
