UN Peacekeepers Killed In Mali

DW: UN peacekeepers killed in Mali as violence threatens regional stability

The UN has warned of growing instability in Mali, with chances that violence may spill into neighboring countries. Germany has made its mission in Mali a key defense priority, backing proposals to expand its role.

The UN mission in Mali on Friday said that two peacekeepers were killed and 10 others wounded during an attack on its northeastern camp. The peacekeepers killed in the overnight attack were from Chad, according to the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

The UN Security Council condemned the attack "in the strongest terms," urging the Mali government to "swiftly investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice."

WNU Editor: I do not know why they keep on calling this UN contingent "peacekeepers". There is no peace in Mali to enforce .... this is a warzone.

Newspeak basically. If you call them combatants or anything else the implication will be obvious but calling them peacekeepers keeps attention to a minimum.Just like ISAF in Afghanistan were never actually called combatants the term was international security assistance force. But in reality they were full blown combatants.ISAF vets don't remember any reconstruction or assistance work but they do remember the shootouts the bombs and the snipers. It got to the point that in some countries so called analysts were claiming our forces over there are not fighting a war they are a stabilisation force whatever that means.I always had a more pragmatic view if they're shooting and you're shooting back its a war the only thing to solve are the rules of engagement.

I know vets that remember reconstruction and assistance.

It depends on your MOS.

Granted the troops patrolling on foot on along MSRs,etc will remember bullets and bombs way more or only remember bombs & bullets.
