A Look At How The U.S. And China Are Actually Financing The Other Country's Military Build-Up

Jonathan Russo, The Observer: China Is Basically Paying for the US Navy’s Build Up in the South China Sea

“Build the wall” was the Trump crowd’s rallying cry during his campaign. To further rile up his supporters, Trump would retort, “And Mexico is going to pay for it.” But over a year and a half later, it appears that Mexico paying for the wall was nothing but a pipe dream and a marketing scheme to mobilize immigration hardliners. Worse yet for Trump, of the $33 billion he requested to secure the border, Congress has only authorized $1.6 billion, and that’s just for barrier re-enforcements.

However, China, another Trump nemesis, may not be able to avoid funding the president’s policies. They will end up paying the U.S. Navy to build and maintain the very fleet of warships and planes that’s opposing them in the South China Sea.

WNU Editor: Historically speaking .... when it came to conflicts the lender is the one that usually wins. After-all .... if you are borrowing it means you no longer have money, and in war time if you do not have money and you do not have the means to raise it at a quicker and larger rate than your enemy .... good luck in financing your war machine to the level that you will need to win the war. This is why it is important for the U.S. to balance its books .... both in trade and on how it handles its domestic budget. Unfortunately .... that is not a priority for U.S. politicians and political parties .... and even less so for the American electorate.

Well, the winner is the one who is winning the war. The lender has to pay enough on "war damage" to make the borrower easy to pay the lender.

WNU Editor,

Your editor comment pretty much says it all. There's really nothing that can be added. Frankly, in this environment, it would be inadvisable to go to war with China, Russia, or even any mid level power for that matter. Fortunately Trump diplomacy with regards to China, Russia, North Korea, and others is having huge dividends. As such, war seems less likely with any of these powers right now than it has been in quite a long time.

I am cautiously optimistic that America and its people will get this right in the end. A positive first step was in electing Donald Trump. Already some progress has been made. I expect more to be made by tend of Trump's second term.
