Reuters: Russia, after Netanyahu visit, backs off Syria S-300 missile supplies
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is not in talks with the Syrian government about supplying advanced S-300 ground-to-air missiles and does not think they are needed, the Izvestia daily cited a top Kremlin aide as saying on Friday, in an apparent U-turn by Moscow.
The comments, by Vladimir Kozhin, an aide to President Vladimir Putin who oversees Russian military assistance to other countries, follow a visit to Moscow by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week, who has been lobbying Putin hard not to transfer the missiles.
Russia last month hinted it would supply the weapons to President Bashar al-Assad, over Israeli objections, after Western military strikes on Syria. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the strikes had removed any moral obligation Russia had to withhold the missiles and Russia’s Kommersant daily cited unnamed military sources as saying deliveries might begin imminently.

"Not for now" Mmmh... I think for now Putin has made a mistake. Leave a job unfinished, aside for what he gained, is not a good choice. For Russia especially.

He truly is a broken man
Since Trump assumed office every time Russia has tried to confront America or its allies they have, for the most part, come away defeated. For this I primarily credit Trump as he's the only new variable in this.
In the current situation, Netanyahu and Putin aren't new. Netanyahu and Trump have forged good working relations. As such, I think it is highly probable that Trump was heavily involved in the process. It seems this decision on the part of Putin and Russia is another victory for Trump diplomacy.
The man who was supposed to have colluded with Russia during the election is proving to be Putin's worst nightmare. This is truly ironic. Putin's only hopes may be 1.)try and ride out Trump hoping the US will elect someone less skilled next time around or 2.) hope the Mueller Commission succeeds.
The man who was appointed to uncover "Russian collusion" specifically directed against Putin has now become Putin's best hope. The irony in all of this is astonishing.
