Iran Foreign Minister: We Will Not Renegotiate Nuclear Deal

Reuters: Iran says will not renegotiate nuclear deal, warns against changes

ANKARA (Reuters) - Iran’s foreign minister said on Thursday U.S. demands to change its 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers were unacceptable as a deadline set by President Donald Trump for Europeans to “fix” the deal loomed.

Trump has warned that unless European allies rectify the “terrible flaws” in the international accord by May 12, he will refuse to extend U.S. sanctions relief for the oil-producing Islamic Republic.

“Iran will not renegotiate what was agreed years ago and has been implemented,” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a video message posted on YouTube.

Fred,

"Iran will not renegotiate." Don't be so sure. What happens if/when their main benefactors of Russia and China say you are renegotiating?

"Trump will dump treaty." Don't be to sure about this either. As I have said all along, unless Trump has the support of these "allies" the treaty will not be dumped. The treaty is a "lemon." Perhaps the only option is to make "lemonade" from it. There are ways this could be done. With that said these "allies" especially Germany aren't worth much. As for France and the UK. a little token assistance along the margins is occasionally supplied at a steep price. Is an "alliance" with them even worth the paper its printed on? Do they have our backs? Could they have our backs if we ever needed them to? In the case of Germany, they are in even worse shape than I thought they were militarily!! As a master negotiator and master observer of human behavior, POTUS no doubt knows this. He may have decided its time to "kick some of them to the curb." Especially with the state of the German military right now I think it would be a reasonable conclusion that being linked to them is not only a net liability but is actually dangerous for America.

So perhaps knowing that he knows this they may just agree to side with POTUS on this. Maybe knowing America is not willing to be their chumps any longer they may decide it is actually time to respect us.

"Israel has said it will not let Iran get nukes." I actually predicted this back in January 2008. Israel recently demonstrated thy can slip into territory guarded by the American Air Force and get out unnoticed.

"and after the treaty is gone?????" The treaty is not gone yet. It is to early to say. If our "allies" won't budge and we are not able to obtain any assistance from Russia and China here, then we may just be stuck with the treaty. Perhaps it may be time to ask these "allies" would they rather be on good terms with us or are their business relationships with Iran "death to America" more important to them.

If the treaty is "gone," I would say fighting along side Israel is a better bet than shaky "allies" whose dependability is questionable at best and even if they wished to assist us there seems significant doubts as to how much assistance they can actually offer.

Either way there don't seem to be many good options here. At least with someone with the guile and tenacity that POTUS has demonstrated gives us a fighting chance either way.

In summary, I think it is to early to declare the treaty gone. We shall see.

"Our allies want to stay with the treaty"

Our allies traded with North Vietnam during the war.

So how can one take seriously Neville Chamberlain type backslider like Theresa May seriously?
