VOA: Did Iran Have Anything to Do With Farah's Attack?

WASHINGTON — Afghanistan’s western Farah province has been the scene of fierce fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan government in recent days. Afghan officials blame Iran for the unrest.

Gen. Fazl Ahmad Shirzad, provincial police chief of western Farah province, told reporters on Wednesday that Iran is supporting the Taliban in the province.

“Iran is directly funding and equipping the Taliban in Farah, and the country is involved in the recent unrest in the province,” Shirzad said. “Farah is very important for Iran, and the country sees its interests in continued unrest in the province,” he added.

Gen. Gul Nabi Ahmadzai, the former Afghan border police chief, told VOA that Iran’s support for the Taliban is not a secret.

WNU editor: Iranian assistance to the Taliban has long suspected even though they are ideological/religious enemies. If there is Iranian assistance, it would be more of .... the enemy of my enemy is my friend (at least for now).

Iran will help anyone including ISIS if it hurts the U.S.

The Iranians supplied The Sunni insurgents in Iraq with money and war material.

Of course they are. The questions is what is the U.S. going to do about it.
