ABC News Online: Karl Marx's hometown unveils giant bronze statue on philosopher's 200th birthday

A larger-than-life statue of Communist philosopher Karl Marx was unveiled on Saturday on the 200th anniversary of his birth in the western German town of Trier.

The celebratory uncovering of the 4.4-metre bronze statue of Marx, donated by China, sparked criticism by some who blame Marx for crimes committed by social revolutionaries in Russia, China and elsewhere in the name of Communism.

Karl was a shrewed manager of finances

Karl Marx came into 3 inheritances and burned threw each one within 6 months.

Karl had a lot of needs, a very needy man indeed. He had the need to party hearty!

Marx has made a huge impact on thinking historically and economically. You can with ease talk about the abuses of "marxism" but then one can do the same with Capitalism or Socialism or any Ism...yes. Russia and Cuba et al a mess and horrific. But then look at the welfare states in the Netherlands etc and see a decent society that ranks high in health, happiness, and decent living for its citizens
