Makes me wonder if Kim Jong-Un's charm offensive was kickstarted by the Chinese.

D.Plowman,

If this whole process is successful and there is still allot that can go wrong, it will probably be many years before the full details of the entire process become known to the general the public. Until then the best any of us who do not have access to inside information in real time can do is what I will call "reasonable speculation."

I do wonder the same thing you do. Was it the Chinese who kickstarted Kim's charm offensive? As the country with the most influence over North Korea, I think this is highly likely. This was first kickstarted by brilliant diplomacy from team Trump to get the Chinese on board. This started with Trump's choice to appoint as ambassador a person who is on good terms with the Chinese leaders. What a novel idea?!!? Appoint someone as ambassador whom the host country respects. This is how statesmanship works.. If Trump's opponents were not so full of hate that it has clouded their judgement, they could watch him, study him, and learn.

As Trump and his team are the only new variable to this equation, I tentatively conclude that he/they has been the decisive factor in the process but, as stated, it may well be many years after a successful process before the general public knows the full details. Perhaps he had no role at all in this.
