Should The EU Impose Diplomatic And Economic Sanctions On The U.S. Because Of The U.S. Withdrawal From The Iran Deal?

President Trump announcing the U.S. withdrawal from The Iranian nuclear deal

Simon Tisdall, The Guardian: Europe must make Trump pay for wrecking the Iran nuclear deal

Britain should cancel the president’s visit and join with allies to impose diplomatic and economic sanctions on the US

Donald Trump’s torpedoing of the Iran nuclear deal on highly specious and misleading grounds is an act of wanton diplomatic vandalism fraught with dangers. While the 2015 agreement may not yet be wholly sunk, it is holed below the waterline. Many in Tehran will see the sweeping reimposition of US sanctions as a declaration of war. As for Trump, he has once again proved himself the master of chaos.

This aggressive bid to further isolate Iran appears designed to ultimately enforce regime change. In the short-term it will destroy remaining mutual goodwill, undermine pro-western Iranian opinion, empower hardliners, trigger an oil price crisis, and increase the risk of conflict centred on Syria and Israel. It raises the spectre of a regional nuclear arms race, and damages the western alliance to the advantage, among others, of Russia. It is a Crimea-sized blow to the primacy of international law.

WNU Editor: Over the years I have posted numerous commentaries from progressives like Simon Tisdall to round-up my daily "Commentaries, Opinions, and Analysis" post. But they have "jumped the shark" on this one. The Middle East is engulfed by war and conflict to a level that is unprecedented in modern times .... and Iran is in the middle of much of it. But if given a choice between punishing President Trump or the Iranian regime .... Simon Tisdall has chosen the Iranian regime while blaming the U.S. for the mess that has existed in the Middle East. Truth be told .... the Middle East has been in conflict even before the the U.S. became a nation state. And while it is easy to blame the U.S. for the current situation .... and specifically President Trump .... the ones who are to be blamed for it are the peoples and governments who live there, and who have chosen this path of endless conflict as a solution to their differences. So commenters like Simon Tisdall wants to impose sanctions on Trump and the U.S. .... but here is a very easy prediction .... if imposed it will still not deter or limit in anyway the chaos and mayhem that exists there.

Learn from the past and do not enter into any agreements that include the US a known quantity that does not honor it commitments. If excluded for say a decade perhaps they will develop some integrity as regards international agreements.

Next up, come up with a process to teach that country to respect international law.

The Iran Deal was a private deal the Obama had with Iran.

It was not a treaty. Treaties have the force of law.

The 'deal' was not brought before all 100 senators.

Maybe Bobby does not understand this. Maybe Bobby does not understand what a representat5ive republic or democracy is.

Iran did not honor its agreement. It cheated on the deal.

More of a bribe than a deal

Anon. The USA is not a democracy it is a Republic as in Rule by Law. I will give you the benefit of doubt and assume you know that already. If you didn't know that already you have might have benefited from this exchange but I doubt it. Unfortunately some wily coyotes have manipulated the phony democracy aspect of the country's election process and have taken over and manipulated the Supreme Court and the laws so they are free to run wiled in the country and the world, for now.

As for your rather weak reading and comprehension capabilities I did not mention the word "treaty" and my comments about history integrity stand.

A Republic is not a Democracy, but that does not mean it governs against the will of the people.

In a direct democracy people simply could have a majority vote to off someone and it would be 'democratic'

All the European countries have houses/congresses/parliaments and a court hierarchy. Not sure what you are complaining about Bobby.

Diplomats (trained, alert diplomats) know that if they have a deal with an American president that does not go through ratification with the Senate then they have squat.

Obama had a perspective vote count of the senate taken. He came up short, so rather than lose face and political capital, he did not call a vote. then he implemented the deal by hook & by crook.

Iran nuclear agreement: Congressional review

"Congress did not pass any legislation that approved of or rejected the deal, despite many attempts to do so."
