Reuters: Socialist Britain will not be 'ripped off any more' under Labour: McDonnell
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s main opposition Labour Party wants to radically transform the economy, forming a Socialist society where “we’re not going to get ripped off any more”, its finance policy chief, John McDonnell, said on Sunday.
With Labour almost neck-and-neck in the polls with the governing Conservatives, who lost their majority in last year’s election, its leader Jeremy Corbyn and others are setting out their stall ahead of a new election not due until 2022.
McDonnell told the BBC that he had been talking to business leaders to offer them clarity on Labour’s policies.

WNU Editor: Being one who has experienced what life is like in a socialist/communist state .... I can say unequivocally that Venezuela is the perfect socialist state .... and it will only become an even better socialist state when Venezuelan President Maduro implements his promised "revolutionary and radical" program after today's election. But where Britain's shadow Finance Minister John McDonnell gets it wrong .... and quite frankly he is not alone .... all liberals/progressives/socialists/communists/etc. make the same mistake .... is that they really do not understand how a successful country works. I have learned one undeniable truth .... the most important component of any successful country is how they treat the 1% to 2% who make everything work. And who are these people. They are the risk takers, entrepreneurs, business visionaries, professionals, managers, and business owners who wake up every morning and try their best to succeed. They are the ones who employ people, make services and goods available, introduce new products and ideas, and take the risks. Once you start messing around with this 1%-2% .... your city, state, country will decline. In the case of Venezuela the defenders of the regime (and its philosophy) are pinning the blame for its collapse on others. U.S. sanctions and Washington waging economic warfare. EU sanctions. Low oil prices. The elites in Venezuela plotting to overthrow the government. Etc. Etc. Etc.. Sighhhh .... I have heard it a hundred times .... and I know that I will be hearing it even more in the future. Four or five years ago during the height of the oil boom I predicted on this blog what was going to happen in Venezuela. That Venezuela's fate was already determined when former President Chavez went after this small group of people .... driving them out of the country while accusing them .... just like Britain's Shadow Finance Minister John McDonnell is accusing these people in the U.K. today .... of "ripping off" society and the people who live in it. But guess what .... they never deliver .... never. And in the end the big losers are always the same. The working middle class and the working poor that Marxists/socialists/progressives are always claiming that they represent and protect.

WNU,
You are 1,000,000% right. As Einstein said: "Insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different result".
Bald faced liars like Britain's Shadow Finance Minister John McDonnell are what we face in the U.S.
We have to many of these people like McDonnell in the Democrat party somewhere in the vicinity of 90%. But the Democrat leadership is striving for 100%.
The Republican Party is better , but there is nothing to brag about at 33% to 66% infected. Many people considered the Republican Party to be governing against the wishes of the people, when Cantor's speech in Georgia became known. Sure that rat bastard is gone, but the good ole boys network keeps insinuating more RINOs into the party.
The problem is that John McDonnell does not have a proper education. He is unemployable outside of government or maybe an NGO.
"... and took a Bachelor of Science degree in Government and Politics"

Looks like Aiz got up on the wrong side of the bed... again.
Anon,
Name one thing I said that is wrong. You cannot, so you resorted to an ad hominem attack.
I accept your defeat.
Now try again this time with a modicum of thought. What is not true>?
1) That John McDonnell does not have a proper education?
2) That the Democrat party is crap?
3) That 1/3rd to 2/3rds of the Republican Party is Crap. ( I can name names and if you are pugnacious, punch drunk enough and stupid enough we could go through all 535 members of Congress. McConnell, Flake, McCain, Cantor & Ryan are obviously worthless for starters.
I believe we will need to strike a balance in all this. True; Socialism fails as it goes too far to the left but so does conservatism as the 1-2% give themselves far too much compensation for their efforts. Maybe it's easy to measure and sell to their boards but they must realize that their results will lead to a left push to socialism.
Feldhake,
Capitalism is great for people with unlimited cheap labor.
Capitalism does work. I remember the Time magazine picture (1970s or 1980s) of a duchess (in London) or something doing her dishes, because the hired help was not round the clock like in the old days. The help was able to change their hours & other working conditions.
WW1 had a big effect on the class system in Britain. Soldiers cam back sand they no longer wanted to work on the manor. They had seen a greater portion of the world and wanted greater opportunity. Compensation changed in favor of the worker. Some documentaries talk about this. Look for a documentary about the Edwardian farm or The Great Houses (Buildings still extent).
The Swedish model is said to work and to have the right mix. It is failing. It just is doing so at a slower rate than Russia or China. But is doomed.
