Will The Ortega Regime In Nicaragua Survive?

AndrĂ©s Oppenheimer, Miami Herald: Ortega’s repressive regime cannot survive — even his younger brother, a former Sandinista leader, says so

After Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega’s brutal repression of youth protests that left at least 46 dead, even his fellow former leftist guerrilla leaders — including his own brother — say that his authoritarian regime is unsustainable.

And I heard it from Ortega’s brother himself during my lengthy telephone interview with retired Gen. Humberto Ortega, a historic commander of the 1978 Sandinista revolution against rightist dictator Anastasio Somoza — and the Nicaraguan president’s younger brother.

Humberto Ortega was the founder of the Sandinista People’s Army after the Sandinistas took power in 1979. He was their top military strategist, served as defense minister and led the Sandinista military in the war against the U.S.-backed contra rebels in the 1980s.

Update: In Nicaragua, deadly protest crackdown spurs Ortega critics (AP)

WNU Editor: What caught my eye in this story is this break of former top Sandinista commanders and officials from the Ortega regime. Unlike Venezuela where many Chavez officials and commanders still support President Maduro's government .... and are keeping him in power .... one certainly cannot say the same about Nicaragua.

Danny Ortega has been trying to gain power or has been in power since 1979 or before.

So we have what 38 years or more?

This is a guy for whom political power was plan A and has no plan B.

Like Hitler Daniel Ortega was a trainable monkey. Consultant told him to drop the camos, Che Guevarra chic, for 3 piece suits.

So you could dress Danny up, but he remained wedded to the old socialism that always devolves into an oligarchy. Yup, Danny and friends all have their haciendas and business interests.

With all the poor countries in Latin America the ones involved with violent rally protest is the ones that have some of socialists in economy. This is the attack of capital.

YC move to Nicaragua or Venezuela.

Your mother will be thankful that you are not living at home anymore. She'll only have to do 50% as much laundry.

You can go to those countries and be a communist shock troop and beat the Hell out of the opposition.

Or you could get grounded in reality, but I doubt it.
