Spying for China is quite despicable.. even if you are Chinese - you should ask yourself if you really can support a country which arms North Korea, tortures and imprisons people who voice dissent, introduces a "social credit system" that makes 1984 look like a fairy tale, and militarizes the South China sea, threatens almost all its neighbors with war, and the list goes on. You know what I mean? I can understand if you think many of these things are done by Americans, but it's not really so. For example, there was a huge scandal around torture (which was just water boarding, common - it's not that bad, but ok, lets say it's full blown torture).. they only tortured like 4 terrorists after 9/11 when more than 3,000 innocent people were killed in the twin tower attacks. It's not the same as putting people who voice dissent into torture chambers, the mildest ones the Chinese have is the sleep depriviation.. do that for 1-2 weeks, it's horror. I've had insomnia once for 3 days, I thought I died.. those guys get to do 1-2 weeks in the comfort of a prison cell, with no darkness (constant light) , sleep interruptions, roughing up.. that's the softest they have.. some die of anxiety and heart attacks.. do you know what I mean? Also .. arming North Korea (the mobile missile launchers, the rocket fuel...) is not really cool, you know? That's what the Chinese did... despite that it's violating international law and puts the entire world at risk. Remember, North Korea produced even VIDEOS of nuclear holocaust in the US... that's how insane it is that China would help such a regime. That's why I cannot understand why anyone would spy for China ffs.. it's inhumane and a betrayal to the rest of the world imo.. tell me I'm wrong
Anon,
Money.
Maybe they should start executing spies again. Most unlikely it will happen though since no one has been sentenced to death and executed for espionage since 1953 the famous Rosenberg case.Still maybe if someone was actually given a death sentence all this temptation would be reduced. But i don't see it its exceedinly unlikely to get a federal prosecutor to seek a death penalty in an espionage case short of a major war being in effect and that espionage case being shown to have done significant damage to US national security.
What I am surprised about is the lack of outrage about this.
He is the tip of the iceberg. Money talks and the Chinese are spreading it around. Also as the US government behaved badly, especially under the Bush II and Obama years, with bungling, incompetence, malfeasance, corruption that really got out of hand, this prepares the ground for foreign intelligence agencies to turn a citizen.
