Mark J Valencia, East Asia Forum: US pundits and politicians pushing for war in the South China Sea
Criticising China for its actions in the South China Sea has become quite common in US foreign policy commentary over the past few years. Recently, the criticism has become ever more strident and dangerous. In some instances it even borders on ‘yellow journalism’ — namely journalism that is based on sensationalism and crude exaggeration — which is something that has prodded the United States into war in the past.
Some commentators in Washington trumpet the China threat. They use information about Chinese construction on features in the South China Sea to bolster their campaigns to convince the Trump administration that China presents an imminent threat to US interests there, particularly freedom of navigation. Accompanying these concerns are a spate of proposals for aggressive US military action to challenge China’s claims and actions in the South China Sea.

WNU Editor: The above author is warning that some in the U.S. are pushing for war against China in the South China Sea. That may be so, but China has been openly threatening war with its neighbors should they decide to exploit the resources of the region, and have installed the military might to make sure that they would win in any such conflict.

I do see a low level war in the Pacific then an agreement that China will agree with for a few decades then attempt to get out of later. This is like two trains heading in the same direction with no brakes, its inevitable and all we can hope is for a short and low impact war. China has far too much to loose.

As long as Russia doesn't take it as a threat that a world power is getting kicked off its pedestal, we would squish the dragon. It will be bloody, but it will be decisive. We will knock them back 50-100 years. My main concern would be what happens with the 1 billion plus population after the fact. I find it hard to imagine a war between super powers not involving nukes. China would be a radioactive waste land. At least any militarized part of it. And oppressed or not, no population will take kindly to foreigners nuking their homeland.
