VOA: China Blasts US for Flying B-52 Bombers Near Disputed Islands

China blasted the United States Tuesday for flying a pair of B-52 bombers near disputed islands in the South China Sea, further fueling tensions between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying accused the U.S. of "stirring up trouble" and warned "China will not be threatened by any military warships." Hua said China would do whatever is necessary to protect its sovereignty.

The bombers flew near Scarborough Shoal, which China seized from the Philippines six years ago. The flyby occurred after U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis accused China of "intimidation and coercion" in the South China Sea.

Beijing claims most of the sea, which has a wealth of resources and some of the world's busiest shipping lanes. The neighboring countries of Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have competing claims to the sea.

Another way of looking at this is there is very little the Chinese can do to stop the freedom of navigation transits.

By the way reCAPTHCA is absurd.

Agreed. This is not about bombing islands. This is about showing China the free world will not bow down to tyranny and outrageous claims on south China Sea territory that almost every nation on planet does not accept. China cannot just declare something theirs just because ... maybe we should remind the Chinese leadership that they can only control their people as long as there is economic growth. China would quickly go down in a trade war. .the world is fed up with China and except Iran and north Korea/Russia there won't be many of the 160 nations coming to china's help. Japan certainly won't. South Korea don't. Vietnam (who the Chinese threatened with war just last year) definitely won't. India won't (china also threatened them with war), Australia won't. NATO, the 50 or so Arab states won't now that relations between trump and them is good, the EU won't, Canada won't. China has managed to isolate itself and acts like an infant on the diplomatic stage. Free people won't bow down to their bullying. And we have seen what life in China looks like. .sure they finally are on average earning as much as the poorest EU state (lol! ) but look at all the totalitarian/authoritarian tendencies. No thanks. Bye,China. .I certainly won't go back there
