ABC News Online: China warns all trade deals are 'void' if US imposes tariffs, other trade measures
China has warned the United States that any agreements reached on trade and business between the two countries will be void if Washington implements tariffs and other trade measures, as the two ended their latest round of talks in Beijing.
The warning came after delegations led by US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and China's top economic official Vice Premier Liu He wrapped up a meeting on Beijing's pledge to narrow its trade surplus.
Mr Ross said at the start of the event they had discussed specific American exports China might purchase, but the talks ended with no joint statement and neither side released details.

WNU Editor: I was afraid that this was going to happen .... and not surprised. The Chinese made a lot of promises to cut the trade deficit .... but when pressured on how and when they were exactly going to do this .... nothing concrete was presented. My gut tells me that the Chinese will only respond when they are pressured, and they do not feel pressured right now. The giant holes in our streets, the rusted out bridges, our populations without meaningful employment, our abysmal airports, and our educated yet functionally illiterate young people might argue for more fair trade so that we can catch up to China who are doing quite well with our former cash.
The current tariff's was done when China was a small economy and we wanted to help them. Time has changed, rules have to follow these changes. The pressure is long over due.
Anon,
Very well said. Our people dream of perhaps someday being equal to Canada, Japan, New Zealand, or other great countries. Only those who are delusional would think the United States of America is currently great by any objective standard.
We are number 1 in consecutive years at war in multiple countries with zero wins. We provide medical care for free through nation building, roads, and reconstruction. Perhaps we need to declare war on ourselves, immediately surrender, and get our country rebuilt with free quality health care. It may be the only way for Puerto Rico to get the help it needs.
Paper towels are not enough.
Hahah made. My day
