DW: EU leaders meet as divisions cloud asylum and migration talks

Some EU leaders are attending a mini-summit in Brussels. They'll discuss differing approaches to how the bloc can deal with a sustained stream of migrants and refugees seeking a new life in Europe.

The leaders of 16 EU member states gathered in Brussels on Sunday for an "informal working meeting" hastily arranged amid a crackdown on NGO rescue ships operating in the Mediterranean Sea. It is taking place ahead of a critical EU summit on Thursday and Friday.

Recent disputes, mainly in Germany and Italy, have exposed divisions on migration and asylum policy — which the EU has been trying to overhaul since the 2015 migrant crisis — between EU member states.

WNU Editor: As I had mentioned in a post yesterday, this summit is to save Merkel's coalition and her job. But I do not see many EU states backing her, and I am sure that her coalition partners .... facing regional elections this fall that would surely hurt them if this continues .... are looking for a way to ditch her. On a side note. Thanks to German Chancellor's open border policy, more evidence  today that she is fueling the rise of the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to its highest ratings .... Migration fight erodes support for German conservatives; far-right AfD gains (Reuters).

This migrant issue will worsen over time and in a few years will have an additional wave of climate refugees.
What is to be done?

No one said Miami would be underwater in 2018...but why are they making plans and already raising roads and the wealthy buying property on higher elevations in Miami..they did not listen to Smith

Plans for a $4 billion mega-mall to be built on the coast line city of Miami are pushing forward, despite the fact that the city is likely going to have to deal with rising sea levels and worsening weather as the years progress. Or, it simply could find itself underwater within years, if other projections are accurate.

But don't worry - academics at the University of Penn Wharton School of Business have a solution: just ignore the fact that Miami will soon be underwater, because otherwise you could create a panic that could, in turn, slow down tax revenue that the city is desperately going to need to - wait for it - adapt to being underwater.

Smith: put aside your nasty streak for a change.
Zero Hedge notes the madness of the mall...Now I am not clever in many things, but I do read enough to know what is going on in some areas of the country and I do know that The Villages, in central Florida has a lot of sink holes, in one of the fastest growing home markets in the nation and that Miami has been making plans to elevate roads because of what is already taking place, and I am sure that those engineers and Non English majors know a bit more than a bitter guy whose idea of fun is to sit about and show what a phucking moron he is

Aizino and Fred; personally I loved the boat of scientists stuck in the ice last year. Very funny.

It seriously, we should stick to facts and not false science and think both are contributing. I do believe the earth is experiencing a warming phase (at least over the last few decades) but until someone proves we can't enter into another ice age the discussion is mute. If cold temps come back and ice forms in the attic then less chance for Florida coast line to recede.

Cheers
