Is President Trump ‘Undermining’ The World Order That The U.S. Created?

The Hill: Top EU figure: Trump is ‘undermining’ world order the US created

A top European Union figure said Friday that President Trump is “undermining” the U.S.-led international order.

“The rules-based international order is being challenged ... not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor, the U.S.,” Donald Tusk, president of the European Commission, told reporters at a news conference according to The Washington Post. The conference took place ahead of the Group of Seven summit in Canada.

“We will not stop trying to convince our American friends and President Trump that undermining this order makes no sense at all, because it would only play into the hands of those who seek a new, post-West order, where liberal democracy and fundamental freedoms would cease to exist," he said.

Tusk spoke just hours after Trump had suggested Russia be reinstated into the group — a suggestion that garnered bipartisan condemnation.

Update: Remarks by President Donald Tusk before the G7 summit in Charlevoix, Canada (Council of the European Union).

WNU Editor: Endless wars. Government mortgaging the future with massive deficits. Trade deficits and imbalances that are not sustainable. The "World Order" is definitely not working for a lot of Americans .... and I would also add even more so for many in Europe.

Obama, the Euros love child, added $10 trillion to the USA national debt.
George Bush II started reckless wars.
Bill Clinton helped North Korea get the Atomic Bomb.
They all did awful trade deals.

These huge damages to the USA paved the way for Trump to come in and clean up their yuggge messes.

Iraq, Afghanistan ought to do. Neither were necessary. Both were bungled. Neither had any wisdom from history. Afghanistan deserved a heavy blow but not 17 years of futility. Iraq was misbegotten.

Fred- I'd be OK with talking to Russia. I don't (as you, I guess) see a need to have Russia at the table if all allegations are true. But.. there's been quite a few accusations without evidence. I get it that some has to remain secret, and Russia clearly invaded Ukraine. No one believes their cover up with using unmarked soldiers. It was clearly orchestrated, approved and conducted by Russia. And thousands died. And a civilian plane was shot down. So I don't think we should be easy on them. However. ..I also do think NATO did break its promise and did expand east. At least it looks like it. Sure, it was on invitation of the hosting countries who didn't want anything to do with Russia. Nevertheless, it seems we broke "our" promise (I think it was sn American president, but forget who that said we won't even expand an inch east) and hence it could explain Putin's behaviour. I'm not an expert in this at all so please correct me if I'm wrong. All I'm saying: yes,Russians under Putin behaved badly..but did "we" do everything correctly? There could be a point made that the US fu*ked up a few countries too, and currently does something in other countries that other nations have interest in. Sure, I believe our values are superior. ..democracy etc. ..but our capitalism/military industrial complex is scary ..and the US is involved in so many conflicts. ..I just think we should take a step back and see some evidence and reassess how we got here. The alternative would be a further drift between Russia and the west. The only winner in this is China. ..they'll be all buddy buddy with Russia and then just populate them out. ..they'll also win the AI and weapons race against Russia. Many of Russia's new weapon systems seem to be more hype than anything else and their population will be less than 100mn by 2050, while China will near 2bn and will want Russias resources. Think about it..Europeans and Americans are much much closer culturally and even politically than to China. China is becoming more extreme even. We can need every partner we can get and once putin is gone Russians will hopefully be more democratic again. But we have to assesses also our wrong doings and ask for evidence

Yo Anon
How dumb can you get to find the Dems guilty of the deficit when the biggest deficit of all time was just passed by the GOP! there is not a single economist who believes this huge addition to the deficit is helpful or will do anything but reward the very rich...
why must dopes non stop blame Obama and/or the Dems when the GOP and Trump have been in charge for over a year and a half? Russia on the march? Trump silent. China building islands? Trump silent etc etc
try then living in the present and stop venom spewing upon the past...Now is N O W
