RT: No need for Europe to buy US gas at triple the price, will continue imports from Russia – Austria
The US is force-feeding Europe its liquefied natural gas, which is three times more expensive that buying it from Russia, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen said after signing a gas-supply contract with Moscow until 2040.
While US politicians are accusing Europe of being dependent on Russian gas, they forget that “American liquefied gas is two or three times more expensive than Russian gas. Under such circumstances, it makes little sense in purely economic terms to replace Russian gas with American LNG,” Van der Bellen said at a press conference after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vienna on Tuesday.

Sanctions against Russia were always going to be a losing proposition. When forced to choose between a declining power on the other side of the world whose role in Europe figures to be limited in the coming years/decades assuming it continues to exist at all or a major world power who has had an active and major effect on European affairs for centuries and figures to for centuries more, who are European countries going to choose? Experential common sense will answer this question.
As a person with a business background and who understands deal making, president Trump will no doubt understand this on an intuitive level. In contrast ideologues do not get such things preferring to bang their heads against proverbial brick walls only endangering themselves and others. As I was told at a young age and often point out on this website, when in a hole the first step is STOP DIGGING!!
As an example, jettisoning the chump Ukrainian government has no downside risk along with huge upside potential. Stable and focused people do not even hook up with chumps in the first place.
They are super thrilled to pay more than American LNG for wind or solar, yet paying less for American is a non starter? When it gives the Euro’s greater diplomatic freedom?
Sure.
