The Guardian: Kim Jong-un and Trump 'to discuss permanent peace-keeping' at Singapore summit

After leaders arrive for historic talks, North Korea lays out plan for what the pair will discuss

Donald Trump and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, have arrived in Singapore two days before a historic summit over the fate of North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme.

North Korea’s state media said on Monday the pair would discuss a “permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism” on the Korean peninsula, denuclearisation of the peninsula and other issues of mutual concern.

The report by Korean Central News Agency said Kim was accompanied by his foreign minister Ri Yong-ho, defence minister No Kwang-chol and sister Kim Yo-jong.

Did the G-6 leaders know going into the meeting Trump was going to use them as props to the far more consequential Singapore summit? Do they realize it now?
Trump bashing America's allies to show Kim he's not afraid to make major changes to past American foreign policy and that Trump is a tough guy on friend or foe alike.

Anon,

My take on this is different. Did Trump know that the G-6 leaders specifically those in western Europe were going to use the G-7 meeting to try and undermine Trump during very delicate and very difficult negotiations with a major power and the allies of this major power? Does he know now?

As I see it, having the Canadian PM stand up and insult POTUS after POTUS had left was carefully planned by these leaders specifically to try and make Trump look bad in the eyes of NK leadership and their allies in order to undercut these negotiations perhaps causing them to fail.

Furthermore knowing how much Americans across the board respect and admire Canada even looking up to Canada as someone we'd like to emulate having the Canadian PM deliver the insult is like rubbing salt into the wound. Then having other nations support this is like pouring acid on the wound!! Unfortunately I don't think this was an accident. In other words, they set out to undercut America at a key time.

What were the intentions? 1.) Are they like petty spoiled children who don't understand the consequences of their actions? 2.) Are they evil people being fully aware of their actions understanding fully the consequences of such actions which includes but is not limited to further endangering millions of American lives.

If 2, with such friends enemies are not needed. Judging from the reactions of team Trump combined with the knowledge that for America these negotiations MUST have a modicum of success I think they internet as 2. There will be adverse consequences for this.

Merkel said in public a few days before the G7 that she was coming with guns blazing on trade. So yeah Trump knew he was going to be attacked long before he flew to Ottawa.

I actually agree with the editor in an earlier post. Trump shouldn't have attended. The editor suggested sending the VP.

Personally I think the VP is needed on something like the NK negotiations. Frankly if they really are allies AND POTUS had to be there I think recognizing the gravity of these negotiations with NK they should have volunteered to postpone this meeting. Obviously POTUS can't postpone the NK summit.

I'm sure Trump expected to be "attacked" as in he expected tough negotiations. He probably did not expect such a vicious uncalled personal attack after he had left. Furthermore the attack appears to have been carefully calibrated in an attempt to undercut the NK summit.

These people are either Very, very petty, very, very evil, or some combination. Not good!!

While there is still much that can go wrong, to date the efforts to undercut POTUS appear to be failing. Current indications are the Summit is going better than expected.

Actually I'm not surprised. One way or the other America MUST have peace. POTUS and his team know this. Hence they are well prepared and highly motivated to negotiate in good faith.

Evil/petty efforts to undermine this will not be forgotten by this American or many others. For what its worth, if these efforts continue to progress, don't be surprised if some in the "deep state" who have other agendas ideological and otherwise that don't mesh with those of the American try and undermine this. By now I think POTUS is ready for them.
