Is this an attempt to be humorous. If so, it is actually quite funny. "Well, that's further confirmation; America is a rotting, brain-dead corpse." This does appear to describe much of the leadership and much of the media/pundit class. They do appear to have an unnatural paranoia of all things Russian. Is it jealousy perhaps? I don't know. They would need to answer that.
Recognizing that your description is an apt one for much of America's leadership, to have continued the status quo would have been dangerous if not suicidal. As such, a number of voters to a chance on the unknown in Donald Trump having no other viable option.
I have a feeling Trump's attempts at making peace with the russians are because in his mind the real 'enemy' is China.Trump is a businessman and while he has dealt with various businessmen from various countries the biggest change he would have noticed since 1985 is the rise of China.For him the big problem is not Russia but China.
