Stars and Stripes: Poll: 42% of Germans want US troops out of country
BRUSSELS — Many Germans want U.S. troops to withdraw from their country, where nearly 35,000 American servicemembers are stationed, according to a new poll.
The YouGov survey, commissioned by the German Press Agency DPA, found 42 percent of respondents want U.S. troops out, while 37 percent want them to stay and 21 percent are undecided or didn’t answer. The margin of error was plus or minus five percent.
The poll, taken a few days before this week’s two-day NATO summit in Brussels, also found that 75 percent are opposed to a benchmark that calls for each alliance member to hike defense spending to 2 percent of gross domestic product – a shortfall which President Donald Trump has cited as evidence of allies being too dependent on U.S. protection.

WNU Editor: If these poll numbers are correct .... I would have to conclude that Germany wants to be out of NATO.

Right....They don't want to fight a nuclear war in their soil. Ask american if They want to fight that in their country.
Idiots think there is going to be a russian invasion....
Merkel wants out of NATO. She is turning German energy supplies to Russia right now. A big blow to NATO.
She is working hard to unite China in a anti USA trade front. A big blow to NATO.

There will be some nice big empty bases to lease out to Erdogan...
Well, no democratic government can rule against his people. If German's want to go out of NATO let them go.
With allied like that we don't need enemy.
There is very little education about NATO in high school. U learn way more than you need for any conversation ever about the second world war (3-4 years of history class), but almost zero about the institutions that helped prevent further war and defend western values. Then you see cnn,fox news report year after year after year after year after year on wars the US is involved in and you think "wow I don't like war, the Americans seem to always be at war, nato is run by Americans now they want us to get more involved in nato/war"... of course you'll reject it.
To recap:German education needs to focus more on explaining the institutions like NATO and less on the second world war(one or two years of history class oughta be enough)..perhaps German education should also educate Germans about the wars and murdering conducted by Russians. Not only by Americans. It's this "they were the victims of our aggressions 80 years ago" mentality that lets Russians of the hook in Germany, completely ignoring the trends of millions who died at the hand of Stalin. Well maybe 1-2 hours on this and 3-4 years on the things Germans did wrong. It's very unbalanced and Germany needs to get its act together. No other nation has apologised for as long as Germany has. Time to move on and be balanced a bit more in education so the next generation understands its not just Americans conducting warfare but Russians too and soon the Chinese. ..and the Iranians are. ..the British sure have for centuries (2-3 hours on that but 4 hours in the Beatles and pop culture in England)...it's a mess
mock on mock on...the poll was among citizens, no matter where the country of origin. Unable to accept the poll? simply dismiss it
