Boeing's reusable spaceplane, depicted as a rendering, is under development through a public-private partnership with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. (Boeing Co.)
Los Angeles Times: The military is building a space plane. Now it looks to have an engine up to the task
A new generation of GPS satellites is set to launch into orbit later this year. As with other national security missions, a roughly 200-foot-tall rocket will blast the massive satellite to space, fulfilling a contract worth more than $80 million.
But as nations develop technology to disable or shoot down satellites, the U.S. military has started to look at ways to rapidly and cheaply launch smaller crafts into space. One option: a reusable spaceplane that could launch small satellites 10 times in 10 days, spearheaded by a Pentagon research agency and aerospace giant Boeing Co.

Russia and China have opened up a substantial lead here. Maybe the US is catching up.
That's an absurd statement B. The US spends nearly $900 billion a year on war, significantly more than every other country on the planet combined.
Meanwhile, large American cities don't even have clean drinking water.
The X37 was started in 1999 and has been operational since 2010. What evidence can you present, other than scary fantasies by hack neocon outfits whinging about EMP's or some other such nonsense, that Russia or China have operational wunderwaffe.
Hell, Russian just canceled the PAK-FA, since they can't afford it. But yeah, they built some super duper space weapon. Oh, and China has hypersonics and railguns, for true, I read it on the intertoobs.
Launch Moonrakers 5 and 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anon,
How much money a nation spends on its armed forces is the least important statistic when comparing military capabilities between countries. I'm not saying it is unimportant. It's overrated by the analysts. It's kind of like "time of possession" in American football except less important. I've addressed all of this before on this website.
Which American cities don't have clean drinking water? Flint, MI? Detroit? We do need to address infrastructure issues. I think we are in agreement on that..
The X37 will have very limited utility when measured against Russian and Chinese missile technologies. I think it unwise to blithely dismiss the EMP threat or to dismiss threats from Russia and China as "scary fantasies." There has long been a tendency of American government officials to overestimate our own capabilities while underestimating those of adversaries and potential adversaries.
I remember reading about the suspension of mass production PAK-FA. The pundits due their biases may have misread this decision on the part of the Russians. Most likely this has been suspended for the following reasons. 1.)The Russians made a concession to Trump as part of the negotiations in the run-up to the Summit. They announced this decision before the Summit. Our very astute editor expressed "surprise." Very respectfully to him and to you both of you missed this. If negotiations fail, production can always be restarted in mass. 2,) When Russian fighter planes engaged US fighter planes over Syria, according to a number of reports they were able to achieve a superior position very consistently over the American planes and pilots meaning had these been actual combat situations we would have suffered huge losses. As such, it may be reasonable to conclude the Russians have determined that going forward with the program in mass isn't neccessary.
I'm not sure what a "moonraker" is. Very respectfully from the tone of the last sentence you don't sound like a serious commentator. The bottom line is other major powers are investing heavily in space based weapons. If our military is to be credible, we will need to do so as well. We're starting out behind. Maybe we are catching up.
Moonraker is a James Bond film about a madman who wants to kill everyone on earth and repopulate earth with perfect humans whom will stay in space and come back down when safe to do so. Moonraker 5 and 6 are the names of the space shuttles. It's Bonds job with the help of secret space marines to help him stop the madman. Good movie I recommend it.
Tasman,
Thank you for the information on this.
Trump will build the Anti-matter cannon on the moon ! The world will be ours! Long live Murica!!!!
