As an American I can think of no more petulant and self defeating move than Europe abandoning the dollar as a reserve currency. That surely is the intent with the end of SWIFT. Europe is ally itself with China and Russia in this regard. Such an act will super-cede the Trump Admin and inevitably means the end of NATO. No way the US takes the punishment of the dollar no longer a reserve currency caused by Europe, Russia and China and still commits to defend Europe. Do that and the EU formally becomes an adversary group to the US.

I would like to see what the citizens of these countries say. Not the suits.
I'll bet such sentiments don't reflect Poland, Finland, etc.

Anon,

I couldn't have put this any better myself. This may be a case where ideology supercedes common sense. All POTUS asked for was for western Europe to contribute more for their defense. This was not an unreasonable request.

The JCPOA was a woefully one-sided deal against America. To want this renegotiated was and is not unreasonable. After all the support the US has provided for western Europe while asking for so little in return it would not be unreasonable for us to expect them to support us here.

They've chosen to side with genocidal Iran over a long time friend and ally. This is truly despicable on their part. Surely the general populace if these nations don't feel this way towards us.

We should formally dissolve NATO, no way can we continue with this farce. Oh well there are at least four potential upsides to this along with no downside risk. 1.)It will be easier to make peace with Russia. 2.)We will be better able to deploy our military personnel in ways that actually provide for our defense and advance our interests. 3.) We wiil save money. 4.) We have hidden behind NATO to carry out misguided military operations such as in Serbia and Libya, to name two. Once NATO is eliminated, it's going to be harder for our government to pull this kind of crap. I could go on but am stopping at four for now.
