VOA/Reuters: US Military Hints It Could Resume Major Exercises With South Korea

The U.S. military has no plans yet to suspend any more major military exercises with South Korea, the defense secretary said on Tuesday, in the middle of a breakdown in diplomacy with North Korea over its nuclear weapons.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said at a Pentagon news conference no decisions had been made about major exercises for next year, but noted that the suspension of drills last summer as a good-faith gesture to North Korea was not open-ended.

U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to unilaterally suspend the drills caught many American military planners off-guard and was roundly criticized as a premature concession to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who Trump wants to give up his nuclear weapons.

You know the sad part of this; is that if China and Russia are causing NK to not disarm, that they (China and Russia) have caused the wedge issue of our time. Not cool!!

They get to take care of NK's hungry people and other situations as they pop up.

If this falls apart, we haven't actually given up anything and the beauty of it is we had reduced tensions for a time allowing us time to properly prepare should we have to fight. As I properly stated at the time, a suspension of military drills was hardly the concession that the media hysterically made it out to be. They are easily restarted. A few months off actually gives our forces a much needed respite.
