President Trump's Former Personal Lawyer Pleads Guilty To Federal Charges. Former Trump Campaign Chairman Found Guilty Of Federal Charges

CNBC: Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen pleads guilty, admits to making illegal payments at direction of candidate to influence election

* Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors, NBC News reported on Tuesday.
* Cohen came under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York City earlier this year. They had received a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
* Prosecutors had been eyeing Cohen's business dealings. The New York Times reported that federal authorities were looking into $20 million in loans for taxi businesses linked to Cohen.

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, agreed to plead guilty on Tuesday to eight counts related to tax fraud, excessive campaign contributions, making false statements to a financial institution, and unlawful corporate contributions at a court hearing in New York on Tuesday.

Two of those counts appear to relate to Trump directly. Cohen admitted on Tuesday to making payments to two women at the direction of an unidentified candidate for political office. Those payments, Cohen said, were made to influence the outcome of the election.

NBC: Manafort convicted on 8 counts; mistrial declared on 10 other charges

The trial was the first public test of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation in possible Russian meddling and obstruction of justice by Trump.

A federal jury in Virginia convicted Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, on eight counts on Tuesday, but the judge declared a mistrial on the 10 other charges he faced.

Manafort was convicted on five counts of tax fraud, one count of failing to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts and two counts of bank fraud. A mistrial was declared in three counts of failing to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts, and seven counts of bank fraud and bank fraud conspiracy.

The trial was the first public test of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, and while the special counsel was vindicated, the victory wasn't total.

WNU Editor: The Paul Manafort conviction is a surprise. Many expected him to be convicted on all counts. As for Michael Cohen, his business past caught up to him, and he made the decision that if he went to trial it would be worse for him. Hence a plea deal. But the big question is .... how will this impact President Trump? Legally .... this is a headache. Politically .... not much ... public opinions are not going to be changed. People who hate him will continue to hate him. Those who support him will see this as two separate legal cases that do not involve the President, and will not be concerned, even with Michael Cohen's claim that he paid 2 women hush money (on the direction of then candidate Trump) to keep quiet .... which they did not. WNU will be posting a complete round-up on both trials first thing tomorrow morning.

Dude no one cares about the hush money paid. People know and expect that of Trump. And Manafort's convictions have nothing to do with Trump at all and go back 12 years and many politicians used Manafort. I know you don't like Trump but common. ..and that is the best they coukd do with unlimited power of the state coming after them. Going back to 12 year old white collar crimes. Common man... honestly at first I was also uh oh doesn't look good. ...but in reality. .I don't care one bit. I care about the Russia Collusiom. If that is true or if it was a political setup as it looks now with many people involved. I don't care about tax evasion 12 years ago buy some dude who likes to buy weird jackets. That's not keeping me up at night. The government using its surveillance and agencies coming after political opponents. .that is a different ballgame. But you don't get it. You go crazy over a12 year old crime and a separate hush money thing. ..go figure

I am at this point interested in denial, brushing off, of this serious stuff by Trumpians...this will mean nothing?
would not bank on that dismissal

Before i address your question:

You are a liar and have embarrassed yourself on this blog multiple times now.

And there is no denial. Do you think H. Clinton was innocent? Of course not. Also..I didn't care about the other Clinton's blowjob. I care about hillary Clinton's serious server violations and that she thought a violation - that Comey called "reckless" and extremely careless' and tried to avoid her being thrown in jail... And she had the balls to delete subpoenaed emails and destroy devices/evidence. . .that I do care about...that is outrageous to me, Fred. That is obstruction of justice..
Not the f*cking,Fred...I don't care about the hush money for the f*cling, Fred...and that YOU with your porn website are riding on the high horse...you're unbelievable. .. So let me get this straight, Fred.you're a proven liar, operate a smut website and YOU care about the pornstar...And ignore national security. ...figures.

Thank you Fred L. for always writing the truth! I always enjoy your rejoinders to the hazy rightist propaganda often offered on this site by the many responders here, blinded by their love for anti liberal thinking, and their contempt for critical thought regarding politics and international relations. Sad!
Keep up your lonely effort in speaking truth to the Trumpian rhetoric, few of us want to bother with the bullshit you put up with by chiming in.

Quite right. Which should make answering two simple questions very easy for one of Mr. Lapides stature.

Trump's campaign manager, personal lawyer and first national sec. adviser have now been convicted or confessed to multiple felonies.

Do R's have the backbone to do the right thing and impeach? Or do they continue with the same weak servility that we have seen for years? These are hollow men.

This should be no obstacle to Lapides answering two simple questions.

fred said...

I have no idea what your questions are so why not simply ask again?

Lapides,
As per your request I repeat the questions. This will be the second refresher the first being at 4:32pm August 21 in a post below:
OK Lapides to refresh your "memory"
Give an example of Brennan's "right of free speech" being infringed upon?
"intel guys, i imagine know more about what is taking place than we do"
What gives you the authority to use the plural "we" in this case?
Those have been and remain my questions, unanswered.

What is wrong with porn? Your president had hot sex with porn star
Is that ok?

The article on the end stage of the Trump presidency is interesting. It contains what seems to be allot of speculation and wishful thinking by the author on what might happen.

I think it more, likely that an honest investigation would reveal that POTUS is actually much smarter and richer than was initially believed. We are seeing here what happens when the full force of the government is unleashed against someone what can happen. From the general tone of the article I suspect he has been anti-Trump from the start. While this does not necessarily mean he's wrong in his analysis, such biases can influence judgement

With all the resources at their disposal combined with the constant demonization of Mr. Manafort it's amazing they couldn't convict on all counts.

Porn has nothing to do with my questions Lapides, that is a subject I shall leave in your able hands. I await your answers.

This situation hasn't answered my question of how much did POTUS know of the behavior of these people. That is what is important to me.
Manafort appears to be of the same gene line humanity has seen forever. One name will suffice to describe the mindset and resulting unacceptable behavior of those who have this gene; Madoff, Bernie, one each. Nuff said?
Cohen appears to be one of those annoying flies at the picnic of human interactions that detract from our attempts to raise children who value certain behaviors in their interactions with others. Most of us know and agree in general what those behaviors are. The great religions of the world speak of these and I'll not go any further on the subject.
I will say that a friend of mine long ago said it well in summing up the Madoffs, Clintons, and others of this genre when he boiled them down to the following words; "Too much is never enough".
And in defense of Trump I would suggest that any of his detractors ask what a newly employed "victim" of Trump's behavior feels about these supposedly 12 year old incidents. Admittedly that's a large number, perhaps even record setting, but a few interviews would give one a good idea of the general state of mind.
Just a thought, Fred, in the face of your unusually strident and numerous comments today [which I admit I did enjoy].
And, should it occur, I await any comments of yours when the Clintons' behavior finally makes it to the courtroom. Including the Serial Soiler of the White House carpets and partner in unacceptable and embarrassing behavior, HRC's hubby William Clinton.

"Bot?" Such an accusation tells everyone with intellectual honesty all they need to know. This is the diversion that is used when one is unable to compete with the points made. They must resort to slander. An example, those opposed to American foreign policy are internet bots."

They have not nothing to offer. There ideology is threatened by those who are sane.

This has been an interesting thread. Time permitting I will offer more analysis. As I have clients and family who need my attention, such time may not be forthcoming.

I hope such time is forthcoming. The anonymous poster who accused me of being a bot could learn

Guys gives his opinion on tv. The president then yanks his legally given clearance even though nothing classified said in the speech. That intimidates all who speak out against the president and is hence an attempt to deny free speech. Imagine now you work for an intel agency and you want to express your opinion but do plan to refer to classified materials. You are now intimidated since you too might lose clearance and hence your job

fred said...

Facebook Pulls Plug on Hundreds of Iranian, Russian Accounts
Yep. Russia, bot guy, is very active, as are you

Anonymous said...

Lapides,
That is not an answer. What job is there in the intel agencies that allows you to refer to classified materials on your own authority? Intimation is not fact. You cannot refer to classified material in support of any opinion without prior approval of the proper authority.
Mr.Brennan has had no difficulties in expressing his opinion to date, up to and including claiming the President is a traitor involved in treasonous behavior (backed by you documented on this blog).
Again you have used the plural in addressing your audience on matters dealing with security (stemming from your vast knowledge in holding a TOO secret clearance twice)or is your vaunted memory somewhat hazy again?
I await my answers.

Why have clearance if your not in government? It's like keeping your discount at a job your not at. Facebook was even banning conservative people. You have a right to freedom of speech, but not a right to keep clearance xD. Plus not even the topic on this story. His lawyer just trying to get revenge cause he got fired. Still waiting on that omarosa tape where he said the N word as well.
