You must not drink.
...and tank.
How do we know the driver of the tank was drinking? Military parades are very likely huge morale boosts for the troops and the populace but when something goes wrong like it did here that probably does undermine such of the morale boost for the military personnel that such a parade brings.
I think the most likely reason for this is a less skilled driver who lacks the skills to ever see actual combat was operating the tank. Someone wanted to honor him for his hard work by giving him the honor of driving the tank during the military parade. Unfortunately something went wrong. I pray everyone was okay.
While I hate to use "game analogies" for something like war, it can be thought of like an American football team. There are "players" who are first and second team. These "players" will see combat regularly (meaning they "play" regularly). Then there is the "third team" who occasionally sees action (combat duty). Lastly, we have the "players" who typically don't get to "dress out" (see combat).
In a game situation and even more so in a war situation, these "bench players" will be very important behind the scenes and have important functions to "play" in "practice" and other support roles. As such, it becomes very important for the "coaches" (generals, commanders, etc) to keep these people engaged. As such, allow them the honor of operating a tank during a military parade.
Unfortunately something went wrong. At least this is my "take" on what likely happened rather than a drinking and tanking incident but that it is funny though.:-) Actually without being there and having inside information in real time we cannot "know" for certain just what happened.
Given the huge morale boost to the military personnel and the populace that a military parade would bring along with minimal costs, it is a shame we cannot have one. Unfortunately government personnel in DC was going to gauge the military had POTUS gone through with this. Truly sad.
Sorry BP He was drunk. They were all drunk.
Geoff,
While it is plausible he was drunk, there is,nothing there to prove he was or that they all were. With no upside benefit to drinking in this situation combined with the huge downside risks associated with doing so I simply don't think the drunk explanation is likely. There's no need to be "sorry."
Thank you. I stand corrected.
I remember the answer of Stalin (I hate) to F.D. Roosevelt who is telling him "Why do you prefer quantity than quality?": "The quantity has its own quality". It was a little bit wise, the T-34 get rid of the PanzerII which was hugely more advanced but with small quantity.
This looks like the later model with the larger gun.
I can't view twitter videos but I presume he accidently drove it off the ramp. Easy enough to do. The steering is relatively crude.
