Is China Hoping For A Big Democrat Win This November?

Jeff Spross, The Week: China bets on the blue wave

President Trump finally did it. On Monday, he announced new tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports — starting at 10 percent but eventually scheduled to rise to 25 percent. It's a major development, but not a terribly surprising one in the context of Trump's bottomless nationalist belligerence.

What was surprising? China's rather weak-kneed response: Tariffs of 5 to 10 percent on $60 billion worth of American imports.

That's not nothing. But it's also not super-impressive compared to Trump's escalation. And that suggests the Chinese are changing tactics. Specifically, they may be slow-walking Trump until the midterms.

WNU Editor: The above author feels confident that China will win this trade war .... regular readers know that I have a different point of view. As to the above author's suggestion that China is holding back .... I do not see that. Their options to retaliate right now are limited, and they know that. As for the author saying that the Chinese are betting on the Democrats winning big in November's elections .... in my opinion they are not betting .... they are praying. On a side note .... President Trump believes China is trying to 'impact' the US election with a trade war.... Trump accuses China of trying to 'impact' US election with trade war (September 20, 2018).

The Plot to Subvert an Election
Unraveling the Russia Story So Far
For two years, Americans have tried to absorb the details of the 2016 attack: hacked emails, social media fraud, suspected spies — and President Trump’s claims that it’s all a hoax. The Times explores what we know and what it means.

Fred,

I tried to respond to your posts earlier but my replies exceeded the allotted number of characters allowed. As I am quite busy, I have been unable to get back to this. I will try for a scaled down version and, if necessary, break it into multiple posts.

Who started the trade war? China started this decades ago. Some of us such as myself caught on the early 1990s. Others caught on later and still others are catching on now. At this point, we have a POTUS who understands this and is attempting to do something about it. Perhaps there is a "third way" that is better than what he proposes. So far it has not been proposed or, if it has, no one with any influence has suggested it. When given the option of the previous failed approaches that were dangerous to continue and even suicidal, I will opt for the Trump approach every time.

Whom is Russia in favor of? You would need to ask them. I'm not sure they would tell you the truth. It seems they rather enjoy tweaking the narcissistic tendencies of democrats and HRC. The response of Kruschev's relative in the article you link to is priceless. Narcissists are easy to manipulate. Simply play to their inflated egos. Frankly our elections are not that important that Russia is going to spend much time worrying about and they, like pretty much all the experts, likely thought HRC would win handily and to try and insert onself in this would be counterproductive. Given HRC's generally obviously inferior intellect and her narcissistic ways, I think they would prefer the weaker candidate. Of course this assumes they want to be a strategic competitor. If they want normalized relations, go with the saner candidate in Trump. Watching HRC's rants about Russian interference during the election cycle shows a childlike mind in an adult body.

Whom would they prefer today? While the rhetoric may have been different, Trump's policies towards Russia are actually tougher than his predecessors. With regards to the messaging, when we need to negotiate with a powerful person who heads a powerful country, we do not dress them down in public. If you will notice, Trump has generally refrained from attacking Russian and Chinese leaders personally. This is called negotiating skills. In some quarters it is referred to as statesmanship. As I think they want relief, I think they will probably be rooting for the Democrats. Ironically enough their best hope seems to be that the Mueller Commission will come up with something and throw them a lifeline. This would be ironic, in all likelihood accidental, the very group who was tasked to hurt Russia actually ends up being their savior.

What country has online trolls? I'm very skeptical when someone uses this term to attack an opposing viewpoint. This is the road taken by the US government and the deep state whenever their positions are weak, can't be supported based upon merit, and they have no counter when they are exposed. The opposing viewpoint is labeled a "troll" so as to try and shut down an argument that simply cannot be won based upon the merits of the position. Btw, another name for the deep state should be "destroyers of men and women and all they have worked diligently for who are far better than they are."

Given that HRC pretty much controlled the media including social media and had her agents working diligently to counter anything said against her, trolling would be a colossal waste of time and resources. Any such attempts would be akin to trying to use a child's water gun to counter a vast ocean. As such, this notion is pathetic that a normal person would even come up with such silliness. It is yet more evidence that much of our population is comprised of non serious people.

Fred,

You miserable, d*mb wretch.

You are one of the stupidest people I know.

I know a lot of people, it is really incredible for you to be near the bottom of that group of people.

Mueller is not going to go there. We all know that the Chinese own the Democrat Party since the days Al Gore got caught with his hands in the Fortune Cookie Jar.

There was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Afterwords came "Al Gore and the Temple of Cash" - The New York Times

"Maria Hsia is charged with laundering over $55,000 from the Buddhist temple luncheon for Vice President Al Gore on April 29, 1996. "

"The committee also found a memo from Harold Ickes to Mr. Gore telling him that the event would raise $250,000 and would be organized by John Huang, the D.N.C. official"

D*mb, stupid Parrot!

China began the trade war when it pegged it currency to a fixed rate.

It waged war against the US for 8 years. This accounted for a 1/3rd of all foreign exchange balance.

"how many Chinese agents...." I'm not sure. For a prosecutor to get an indictment is fairly easy. In many cases getting the conviction can be problematic. In the case of Mueller, he essentially has the entire federal government at his disposal. I would liken this to a major league baseball player playing t ball and having the umpires on his payroll. I've seen the government including the deep state do this just never on this big of a scale.

Team Trump does have an advantage. The Mueller Commission like many large organizations is fat, slow, dumb, and ugly. In contrast team Trump is fast, lean, and brilliant. As to whether or not they are beautiful I cannot say at this point.

The tax cuts and regulatory reforms that team Trump managed to get through are largely responsible for the economic growth we are experiencing and the huge increases in incomes we are seeing, at least in the Houston area. As such, it appears that powerful business interests who are the movers and shakers in our economy are betting on Trump, at least based upon how they spend their money and make hiring decisions. Judging by how Wall Street is performing it seems they are betting on Trump as well as well betting the US is going to win the trade war that China went out of its way to start and is going out of its way to inflame.

As for the article you link to, very respectfully this is written like someone who had a preconceived notion and now must invent facts and circumstances to fit the preordained conclusion. The fact that this generates readership is yet more evidence of the level of unserious thinking that many Americans have descended to.

As an example, the authors postulate that perhaps members of team Trump sought contacts with Russian personnel to better their positions should the candidate lose. Besides being extremely insulting to decent people who were/are trying to advance American interests to make such assumptions about them without any evidence to support it, the more likely reason is that they expected to win and with this expectation in mind they knew they were going to need constructive relations with very powerful people and knowing they needed to be able to "hit the ground running" they sought these out and the Russians wishing to get to know more about team Trump and what they might expect should he win were more than willing to accommodate. Unfortunately this careful and meticulous diplomatic effort has been severely undermined if not destroyed by petty losers.
