Reuters: Russia's Putin tells Japan's Abe: 'Let's sign peace deal this year'
Russian President Vladimir Putin turned to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on a conference stage on Wednesday and offered to sign a peace treaty by the end of this year to formally end World War Two hostilities between their countries.
But soon after Putin made the dramatic offer, a Japanese government spokesman in Tokyo said Japan wants the return of islands in the Pacific captured by Russian troops in the last days of the war before it signs a peace treaty.

At this point, I simply don't see how Japan is going to get those islands back. In fact, I don't see this happening at any time in the foreseeable future. Russia is a nuclear armed superpower along with very capable conventional forces. What does Japan have that even comes close to this? If the leader of a more powerful nation is ready to sign a peace treaty and the losses to you as the weaker party are minimal, there seems no upside in not signing along with plenty of upside potential in signing.
I wonder if Japan is behaving in this manner because they expect the Us to enforce their territorial claims forever. If we were to explain to Japanese leadership, that are not in the business of enforcing their territorial claims nor will we underwrite their defense forever, I think we would see different behavior from them.
America and its leadership class, especially the leadership class, feel extremely guilty over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japanese leaders have skillfully exploited this American guilt to gain much from us.
As I understand it, not so long ago Shinzo Abe tried to bring this up and the response of Trump was that he remembers Pearl Harbor. While the media was critical, I find this refreshing, a POTUS who will not give into foreign demands based upon feelings of guilt!!
Putin likes a good joke evidently. Says this while conducting the worlds largest military exercise designed to intimidate Japan as one of its goals.
Well played Mr. Putin.
comrade--
1. Americans are not at all upset or sad over use of bombs to end war.
2. you have lots of time to post pro Putin stuff while at your make believe desk in Texas
If you have evidence that my desk is make believe, please supply it. You have none. As such, you must post slander. Anyone can easily contact me through the website I have already provided. Also, internet searches can be done that will easily verify my claims. You who, lack intellectual honesty or even basic decency will do no such things.
1.)Large numbers of Americans do feel guilty over the use of nuclear weapons in Japan. This is not the case among those who served in the Pacific during WW2 or among those who know or knew people who did. The problem is prevalent among millennials and those who serve in government. Especially with regards to those in government Japan has used this guilt they feel against us.
2. Nothing in the post is pro-Russian. It is mere statements of fact. Russia is more powerful militarily than Japan, the US cannot nor should it be expected to enforce or defend Japanese territorial claims, Japan will not get the islands back, and there's no downside risks along with upside potential to Japan for signing such a treaty.
As for your last bit of unjustified slander, I think addressed already. If you have a serious comment to make, please do so. Otherwise don't waste my time
deal with the devil its your choice
Putin to build a super mall in Ukraine as a sign of friendship and to promise to buy Toyotas for all working in his govt
TL;DR
Most the American idiots here only post slander because they have no facts and lack logic. They resort to saying "comrade". Seems like the only thing the obese Yankees can come up with since providing proof is not something that Americans are use to doing

There are a number of ways to view the use of "the bombs" on Japan. One would be in terms of lives saved, believe it or not. One reason I feel no remorse, gruesome as using them was, is a book entitled "The Rape of Nanking". I made it through 7 pages. That was all I could stomach.
I suppose we could have demonstrated what those two munitions could do without the casualty creating choice made. Drop one in a harbor, etc. That was considered and found to not be substantial enough for the perceived mindset of the Japanese military, many of whom were still in favor of continuing the fight after the first and second use. Even to the point of assassinating the emperor in order to continue.
If you like to think of yourself as a tough guy, check it out of the library some day. ISIS on steroids and meth.
Japanese troops using prisoners of war for target practice, 1942
From reading my posts, perhaps I should clarify my position. Based upon what I know primarily from talking with men who served in World War 2 and who fought against the Japanese I fully agree with the decision to use nuclear weapons in this instance. While I think my position should be clear from the posts, I wanted to make sure it is clear on this. Time permitting I will add more later to this.

I'm not from Russia, don't know anyone from Russia, and never have. My home is in America where I was born and raised. Had you read my post you'd know this.
Now, as stated, evidence needs to be submitted to back up claims of this magnitude. Our government has made numerous mistakes. "Just trust us" is no longer sufficient. Given the fact that the claims are being used to ratchet up tensions in Cold War and given how dangerous this situation is, we need the actual evidence that justifies what they are doing. Also, as I have pointed out repeatedly, the claims seem preposterous to me making acceptance at face value even more problematic for me and a number of Americans.
The security and economic well being of the American people is very important. We are not to be used as pawns on the chessboards of unscrupulous or thoughtless leaders.
I don't even know what a Babushka is.
