U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis: Dismisses Reports He May Be Leaving Trump Administration

The Hill: Mattis dismisses reports of his exit: 'I love it here'

Defense Secretary James Mattis on Tuesday brushed off reports that he might leave the Trump administration later this year.

"I wouldn't take it seriously at all," Mattis told reporters, advising them to "keep a sense of humor about it."

"How many times have been through this, now, just since I've been here?" Mattis said. "It will die down soon, and the people who started the rumor will be allowed to write the next rumor, too."

"Just the way the town is," he added.

Russia Investigation: FBI And DOJ Will Reportedly Defy Trump and Redact Secret Documents

B.Poster said...

Anon,

This doesn't surprise me the that the FBI and DOJ would try and override POTUS on this. I suspect a full release would tend to undermine their case of collusion or interference on the part of Russia. As we don't know what is in them, we cannot be certain at this point. Of course if they were harmful to POTUS's case I think we would have already seen them anyway as this government made it clear pretty much from the start that it did NOT want Trump to be the chief executive and would do anything to destroy him and members of his team.

Now, back to the case at hand, the powers that be want to redact certain parts out of fear of revealing "sources and methods." These are VERY SERIOUS allegations they are making. Essentially they are using these allegations to essentially douse Cold War 2 with gasoline and put a match to it. Provoking such a powerful adversary is not a trivial matter. There better be a very good reason for it. As such, all sources and methods need to be release and thoroughly examined. It doesn't matter how classified they are.

Given the seriousness of this, IF the powers that be had a good track record, there MIGHT be some leeway accounting for "because we said so" and take it at face value and act accordingly. Even then though with the severity of these allegations and where it is headed it is best to err on the side of releasing as opposed to not releasing. Again, release all sources and methods. It doesn't matter how classified or treasured they are. Treasured by whom? The powers that be, so they can continue their abusive roles I suppose.

Because we said so is not enough. The powers that be have had numerous misjudgments. 1.)The Iraq war and WMD. Clearly the WMD were not "there" as in where we thought they would be. 2.)We were supposed to greeted as liberators in Iraq. 3.)Failure to detect or prevent 911. 4.)Failure to properly grasp the sectarian nature of Iraq. 5.)Failure to properly understand Afghanistan. 6.)Failure to understand what would happen if the Libyan government were toppled or worse understanding it and doing it anyway. 6.)Arguably the dumbest move ever made by a world power in backing the corrupt chump government in Ukraine. 7.) Failure to reign in NGOs operating recklessly in Russia and former Soviet Republics or worse knowing what they were doing and demonstrating the bad judgment of allowing it to continue or turning a blind eye to it.

The list could go on. So, when these people say "trust us" this cannot be justified based upon blind faith. They will have to be better. Now, with the accusations of collusion and interference they are essentially taking Cold War 2, dousing it with gasoline, and throwing a match to it. This collection of at best incompetents and worst corrupt maniacs are endangering my family and loved ones and for what appears to be no good reason. At a minimum, they will have to do a much better job of explaining why this is necessary. Err on the side of releasing documents as well as all sources and methods used to arrive at such conclusions. If there is any doubt, release!!
