An Unknown Number Of F-22s Were Damaged At Tyndall Air Force Base By Hurricane Michael

Air Force Times: F-22s, QF-16 likely damaged after Tyndall hangars hit by hurricane

The Air Force said Friday that an unspecified number of aircraft left inside hangars at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida were likely damaged when Hurricane Michael devastated the base, with imagery on social media showing an unknown number of F-22 Raptors are among those impacted.

Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said in an email that some aircraft were left in Tyndall’s hangars due to maintenance or safety reasons, and all of those hangars were damaged when the Category 4 storm pounded the Gulf Coast Wednesday.

“We anticipate the aircraft parked inside may be damaged as well, but we won’t know the extent until our crews can safely enter those hangars and make an assessment,” Stefanek said. The Air Force was unable to say how many aircraft, and which air frames, were left behind.

WNU Editor: Every hangar at Tyndall Air Force Base was seriously damaged. That tells me that the F-22s that were left behind must have incurred some serious damage. There are usually 50 F-22s deployed at this base.

The planes should have been flown away.

This is serious.

Heads will roll.

These jets were probably not flyable due to maintenance, so just a handful were left at the base. The flyable ones I believe were flown to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.

Well, see, the thing is the f-22, like the f-35 is finikcy piece of expensive garbage that can't fly half the time.

So it spends most of its time in hangars, or crashing on landing, or asphyxiating its pilots. Other than that it's super.

Anon 10:36,

Good one! My sentiments exactly. 50% readiness rates. What if they actually had to go to war?
Why does this government tolerate companies that use so much money to create such low reliability, high maintenance stuff?
And we know the execs of these firms are not driving 3 year old Fords as company supplied vehicles.
Scandalous. And has been for decades.

Thats an F16, with the red-orange paint accents possibly a QF16.

Hardened bunkers would be a 2-fer.

Proof against some ordinance and also a hurricane shelter.

It is not like they did not have 3 to 5 days to get the planes up.

Thanks Lori G for your input on these matters. I appreciate seeing them more frequently as of late.

Howdy there Cunt Froth Fred! Well, Lori actually adds value here. So there is that. My negative comments are pretty much only aimed at you. It used to be Jay, but you've taken his place. Thought you made a mighty, self controlled declaration where you were no longer going to comment or respond to those whom you attack, then attack you back? Though for sure this was going to thin out the comment section and make it easier to wade through the bullshit. Bummer.

Oh come on, We have done the rapid raptor exercises, we know we can fit like 4 f-22s in a C-17. we should have been able to evacuate these aircraft easily.

Haha nice. My thoughts exactly. Jay was crazy, but at least intelligent. Fred on the other hand is just. ...well, a little parrot.

Then there is the educational-industrial complex.

Do not believe for a moment that those cannot bankrupt a country or otherwise ruin it.

Dear Anon
If you dislike what I have to say, move on...spilling your hate and venom is not grown up nor is it civilized. If your intent is to drive away from this site any and all who do not follow a party line, then will you be comfy nestling with your own kind and dribbling selfiews?
