The Guardian: Internment camps make Uighurs' life more colourful, says Xinjiang governor

China on defensive over camps where ex-prisoners have told of arbitrary detention, abuse and indoctrination.

A senior official in Xinjiang has described mass internment camps for Muslim minorities as “training” and “boarding schools” where residents receive vocational, legal, and language training as well as “de-extremisation education”.

Beijing has faced growing international criticism for its crackdown in Xinjiang, a far north-western territory of China where it holds as many as a million Muslims prisoner in camps. Former detainees have said that they were subjected to political indoctrination and abuse.

WNU Editor: These are labor camps, not “training” and “boarding schools”. Now that China has admitted their existence and that over 1,000,000 are now prisoners, will the West impose sanctions? My money is that they will not.

China shows once again it is at least willing to make an attempt at solving a problem regardless of rudimentary it may be. what do we do.... throw money at our problems and hope for the best. Let’s see who’s still a country in 50 years

Sorry but you'll see what happens if you put a million Muslims into prison camps. Word does get out, you know? And Muslims do stand up for each other (if a third party is involved- especially nonbelievers...Chinese are atheists. .they hate nothing more)

So is there a final solution then ? :-p

What the Chinese have done has been known for some time worldwide and yet I have seen not a single Muslim nation or leader denounce China for what it is doing

Many of us who read the fake newspapers have know about this for some weeks now. NAME THE NATIONS THUS FAR DENOUNCING WHAT THE CHINESE HAVE BEEN DOING FOR SOME TIME NOW

Fred. Haven't you noticed? We are now the ones who take china's money and we are now the ones isolating them at the same time. Ie it's not only the Chinese who can smile and backstab you at the same time. Europe and by extension the US have a long, rich culture and experience of dealing with adversaries in a non-transparent manner. Have faith. We, the free people, will prevail

It's hard to make decent comments with everyone fighting on this blog. I'd prefer good dialog and analysis not half thought out comments.

This is old news and I do not think the US should do anything until the Moderate muslims of the world stand up to their Muslim extremists. Also, the US has already put extreme pressure on China with tariffs that follows good global strategy; do we need to do more, no not at this time. Good play and MAGA!!

The US shouldn't do anything until moderate Muslims rise up? Good luck with that.
And, wer shouldn't do more than tariffs? Why? We need to do TPP 2.0 at the very least. And ideally shape new military alliances in se Asia eg with Vietnam.

What will create the most response will be the continued relocation of Han Chinese into the region, I suspect.
With the training of an Afghani military unit in Aghanistan near the border, the yellow peril is looking to the future. The future being, they hope, commerce with the Afghanis. Both are crooked enough to pull it off in an affordable manner [greased palms] though not friction free. Lots of haters in and around that area.
