Reuters: Key senators criticize Trump for mocking Kavanaugh accuser
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two moderate Republicans who could be pivotal in determining whether the Senate confirms U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh criticized President Donald Trump on Wednesday for mocking a woman who has accused the judge of sexual assault.
Senators Jeff Flake and Susan Collins were among the lawmakers who took issue with comments Trump made regarding Christine Blasey Ford, a university professor from California who detailed her sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh at an extraordinary Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week.
At a political rally in Mississippi on Tuesday night, Trump mocked Ford’s testimony about the alleged assault in Maryland in 1982 when she was 15 and Kavanaugh was 17.

Update #2: Key Republican senators condemn Trump's mockery of Ford (CNN)
WNU Editor: I listened to what President Trump said in yesterday's rally (see above video). He is not mocking her .... he is pointing out Christine Blasey Ford's inconsistencies and holes in her claims. The punchline is that the ones who are now condemning President Trump are also well aware of her inconsistencies and contradictions. But this is Washington politics, and for those who are insecure, a means for them to run for cover. As for the media who are covering these stories, they can now avoid stories of U.S. record wage increases, decades low unemployment, stock market boom, international trade deals, and sky-high confidence that the U.S. is moving in the right direction.

“Now, in the midst of an FBI investigation, Republicans are interviewing former boyfriends of both Dr. Ford and Deborah Ramirez in a transparent attempt to discredit them. Rape shield laws and the federal rules of evidence are designed precisely to stop this sort of attack. The Judiciary Committee in 1994 expressly prohibited these abuses in theViolence Against Women Act,” she said.
I wonder if Lindsey Graham knows he's a lesbian? I'm not mocking, just pointing out his inconsistencies.
Fully agree with Trump. I'd go one step further. She (Dr. Ford) has provided zero evidence, and in fact multiple people have contradicted her.
Here's what I think happened: she was either attacked by someone else, or more likely - based on her own descripting - it was either a smear campaign, OR she dreamt it.
Think about it. Many women dream of rape fantasies. Some even ask for more than a slap on the butt (ie there are quite a few women or there who like rough sex and pretend games, don't lie about it, just be honest for once).
She cannot even remember how she got to the party or how she left. That's more a dream like scenario. It might not have been a pleasure dream, maybe a nightmare... but without evidence, lots of holes in her story AND (!) Now it looks like she might have even lied when asked about the polygraph test, which was odd to begin with. .taken in a hotel room by a democratic partisan. Common. Think. Be honest. The left uses despicable tactics and this lady dreamed it or is s political hack or got talked into it. No evidence. Even her friend doesn't believe her. .talks about "she has to find -her- truth"
I'm sorry there's no "her truth". Truth is not a feminine hygiene product and the "I believe her"(read: I only believe her) is the most outrageous sexist thing I've witnessed. Just unbelievable. I don't think I'll vote Democrat for the next 2-3 elections just to teach them this needs to stop like yesterday!
You must be a Democrat. Nice.. Just keep it up with the name calling. People who oppose you are not valued on their merit but by sex race age and so on. Just stop what you're doing, it's so bad for everyone. All because you think republicans are evil or bad people. They are not. You start to be though.
thanks for the show of tribalism
L.G. a lesbian? because he is inconsistent?
Trump then?
L.G. may or may not be gay, but I doubt he is a woman who loves women. But whatever works for you
It's nothing to be proud about what you do every day hundreds of times, witnessed by all here
And you do it again and don't even notice it. It doesn't matter what he wants to be. It only matters if his argument is a good one. What's wrong with you lefties?
Sen. Graham is an old lady. Who happens to be gay. Which makes her a lesbian.
Which is fine by me, I say live and let live.
Fred,
The Republicans in the 1990s used the same argument against President Clinton that he should not go after the women who were accusing him of rape. As you said .... Rape shield laws and the federal rules of evidence are designed precisely to stop this sort of attack. But actually President Clinton and his Democrat allies were in the right. No criminal complaint, hence all was fair game. But when it went into the civil courts .... that is where the problems for President Clinton got worse. Perjury, losing law license, paying a hefty settlement.
Christine Blasey Ford needs to do what President Clinton's accusers did. File a criminal complaint, or go via through the civil courts. And as for the current FBI investigation. Christine Blasey Ford is not the focus, it is Judge Kavanaugh who is the focus of this investigation. But my prediction is that none of these accusers are going to go to the courts. Unlike President Clinton's accusers who were able to collaborate their charges, Christine Blasey Ford cannot, and what is worse, those who know her at the time and after are basically calling her a liar. That is why I am not surprised that Senator Feinstein wants the FBI report sealed. I think she already knows what they are going to say.
According to cunt froth Fred, only the Republicans are engaged in tribalism. The left is certainly not known for its full fledged identity politics and racial/religious victimhood signaling. Mr. Grandstander needs to take a seat.
Feinstein wants the FBI report sealed. That's all one needs to know. I know one thing, if the report is damning, she ain't gonna leak this one.
matthew: I think you should be ashamed of yourself. If you do not like my position, that is fine. But calling me, and some others here, terrible names says more about you than it does about me
Its just you and old Jay, who is done trolling the blog these days thankfully. I am fine with not "liking" other peoples positions, and I generally keep to myself. I appreciate reading all of the comments because of all the valuable information contained in them. What I do not like is you taking up comment space, almost never adding any value and just name calling and attacking others, then virtue signaling on a high horse about how bad it looks to name call and attack others. You should be ashamed of yourself, and it says a lot about you, as you just said. I just single you out to drive the point home because I know you hound the comments and its important to point out your hypocrisy to you. This is what happens when emotion overcomes reason; a consistently reoccurring theme for you. Take note of it.
Called tit for tat want me gone like jay so a little tribe of think alike can pat each other on the back or would you prefer to see opposing views?
Lapides,
"would you prefer to see opposing views?" I certainly would, but coherent thought seems to escape you and disappoint everyone.
this is an example of a noncomment that is snippy...
my links are opposing views. That represents incoherence?
No: those are views you dismiss not by confronting what is said but by dissing me, the person posting the link
Lapides,
Well done! You never disappoint. As usual you prove my point so much better than my feeble efforts. Why you are so good at it you may think of teaching, just think a department stool (or sample) could be yours for the taking!
