Reuters: Trump repeats threat of more tariffs if China retaliates on trade
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Tuesday repeated his threat to impose tariffs on $267 billion worth of additional Chinese imports if China retaliates for the recent levies and other measures the United States has taken in the countries’ escalating trade war.
Trump, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, also said China is not ready to reach a deal on trade.
“China wants to make a deal, and I say they’re not ready yet,” Trump said. “I just say they’re not ready yet. And we’ve canceled a couple of meetings because I say they’re not ready to make a deal.”
When asked whether he was ready to levy new taxes in case of retaliation from China, Trump said, “sure, absolutely.”
He added that the current U.S. trade imbalance with China means “they’ve already retaliated.”

It'll be a hard landing for China. .. how will they detract from that embarrassment? Self-pronounced rulers of the world one day, next day Trump's little bitch he plays while he's doing 20 other things. That guy actually has Dragon blood, while Chinese can only dream of it

China was caught unprepared for Trumps diplomatic, economic and military onslaught against China. His first year in office was relatively free of trade fights but then year two came and he was quick to launch his trade wars globally. China is the battle ground and I suspect America's other trading partners will step aside and let these two duke it out and reap whatever benefits accrue from the outcome.
The US had better fire up those REE mines.
I dont understand why a new model would not include the continued outsourcing, but this round being focused on other SE Asian countries not friendly to China. Its a strategic and passive balance that would tip region power structure away from China and toward our actual allies and help them develop.
