Report: China Has Begun Mass Transfers Of Uighur Detainees From Xinjiang Province To Prisons Nationwide

ABC News Online: China reportedly begins mass transfers of Uighur detainees from Xinjiang to prisons nationwide

Train travel to China's heavily restricted Xinjiang province is being suspended indefinitely amid reports Muslim detainees are being transferred to prisons in far-flung provinces, fuelling speculation Beijing is attempting to disperse its mass political re-education program to obscure it from international view.

Beijing has come under increased international scrutiny in recent months as the mass scale of its crackdown on ethnic Uighurs and other Muslim minorities living in north-western China became increasingly apparent.

Approximately 2 million people — including 1 million Uighur Muslims, or about 10 per cent of the Uighur population — have been detained in overcrowded camps across Xinjiang, according to a number of reports this year.

WNU Editor: It is a difficult place to report on .... The struggles of reporting on China's secret Uighur 're-education camps' (ABC News Online). But my gut tells me that it is happening, and that Beijing is purposely doing this to depopulate Xinjiang province of Muslim Uighurs, to encourage mass immigration of Chinese nationals to the province, and to insure that the independence movement in the region never gains traction. Not surprising, Beijing is denying all of these news reports .... China says 'completely untrue' it has detained a million Uighurs in education centres (ABC News Online).

Similar in a way to the way China depopulated Tibet. Chinese are ruthless in dealing with conquered peoples (as well as their own citizens).
