Why I Blog

Wavell Blog: Defence Blogging: Why, When and How.

UK defence blogging is growing in strength and popularity, and the Wavell Room has been instrumental in helping push both acceptance and legitimacy of the role of the British Military Blogger as an entity that can communicate the role of the Armed Forces, debate thorny issues and show loyal dissent to encourage debate about how things could be done differently.

But blogging is not easy or straightforward though, and for every blog that succeeds, many fail. I want to use this article to set out what has worked for me, and my thoughts on what anyone thinking of blogging needs to consider.

WNU editor: It felt strange to read the above article .... and the reason why is because I cannot relate to it. All the points that the above author puts down on the why/when/and how to blog is not what I do when it comes to WNU. It is the opposite. To begin .... I started this blog because I wanted to work on my written English, and I wanted to chronicle/record the news stories that interest me. My goal was never to reach a large audience, or to influence opinion. On the contrary .... I wanted to do this blog only for myself. Nothing less and nothing more. That is why I am always surprised .... and humbled .... when I look at the traffic stats for WNU. I never expected this.

98,400 posts spread-out over 11 years. Tens of millions of visitors to WNU. Tens of millions of page views. Awards and recognition for being one of the top news blogs in the world. Receiving emails from diplomats, generals, journalists, media personalities, politicians, soldiers, former soldiers, fellow bloggers, Hollywood stars, think tanks, scientists, foreign policy experts, business men and women, and .... more important to me .... the general public. It has been a fascinating ride. And it is not going to end. The joy I have in doing this blog has not changed one iota during these 11 years. I am never short of stories to post. I am always learning something new. And the bonus is the input that I receive from all of you .... the reader, who have made all of this possible.

So again .... to all of you .... many thanks for your support, encouragement, and feedback. Words cannot adequately explain how honored and humbled I am with this recognition.

This blog you have made for yourself has become a invaluable assent for me. Giving me the ability to see the world from a different perspective and seeing the world at large in a clearer way. I always advertise your blog to others because I feel it is a great way to find truth. I do not always agree with your opinion but I love how you allow the reader to decide for themselves with articles you post. That said you normally are very good at understanding and explaining things the reader would have no knowledge about and you can be very good at predicting things. You ability to understand/explain what is going on in Russia and other western nations like Canada and USA make you a bridge that bring these worlds closer together. Thank you for everything you do!

Though I visit daily, I think it is time to clamp down on uncivil venom that a few of your readers make in comment section, using Anon to avoid direct name, or to use made up names and then switching. Seems their goal is to drive away those who do not carry out their party line, allowing for no dissent, as though through such tactics they can feel secure that they are among the true believers.

Good Democrats do not use venom.

They use real bullets like registered Democrat James Hodgkinson or real bombs like Bill Ayers.

fred said...

Congrats! you found one (one) registered Democrat and so that proves that over half of the nation's voters are killers!

"Congrats! you found one (one) registered Democrat" - Fred

Note that I commented about two specifically, Bill Ayers & James Hodgkinson.

Some people cannot count to two or their reading comprehension is for the birds.

Robert Creamer, Jan Schakowski's husband shows that violence is endemic within the Democrat Party.

It is not a bug; it is a feature.

"Videos Put Democrats on Defensive About Dirty Tricks - The New York " - NYT

"were captured discussing unseemly tactics like instigating violence at Mr." Trump's rallies.

Mr Creamer made many, many visits to the White House to collude with Obama about voter fraud and election violence.

I mentioned two in initially, because I did not want to take the time to educate an obdurate rock of all the crap Democrats pull.

It takes a Democrat to beat a Republican, who is sitting down in the Congressional chamber.

The Democrat felt threatened don'cha see.

It takes Democrat to suppress the vote by murdering thousands of blacks and Republicans.

Different Day Same Democrats.

Different spiel but same Democrats.

Sir--
you named two and that was to stand for All,...at the very least stop playing games and being a coward liar.
Now there are but two...OK. then of the how many millions there are but two (one not a reg Dem) so what does that tell us? YOU ARE THE DUMMY THAT KNOWS ALL ABOUT NUMBERS?
there are bad people in both parties. Look at what Trump said about McCain
now ease off, sonny, and find something to do with yourself besides selfies

"... there are but two (one not a reg Dem) ..."

Bill Ayers not a regular Democrat?

Fred, did you let him know?

"Barack Obama's first run for the Illinois state Senate was launched at a famous fundraiser and kickoff for the campaign at a 1995 gathering at the house of Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn"

I would be very, very careful about telling Bill Ayers he is not a regular Democrat. He launched the political career of the Democrat standard bearer, Barack Obama, who was the Democrat Leader for 8 years, crying out loud.

Also remember that Bill Ayers was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He inherited a lot of money. Who know how much fertilizer he could buy?

fred said...

Evidence showing he is registered Dem...and if so, so what?
born wealthy? so too Jefferson and FDR
stop being obtuse

fred said...

and for those who dislike Fred, go forth and sin no more

FDR?

The Great Grandpappy Democrat?

"Most New Deal programs discriminated against blacks."

"the New Deal, and the rhetorical support given to the cause of civil right..."

The Democrat Party is still giving rhetorical support and the black family is worse off than ever.

So the Dim-o-crats redefined the concept of family.

Then they redefined the meaning of a diploma.

Yup, Democrat leaders will just love you to death.

Fred the honest skipped over the whole Part where Robert Creamer went to the white house 340 times to plot violence.

Frankly, boss, I don't know how you find the time to read and post as much as your site reflects. I especially note your viewpoints and give them MUCH credibility.
And lucky you for the famous GF. Does she help?
Plus as I've said before and others have commented, I greatly enjoy your multinational background, your ability to balance out some posters with your experience in the old Soviet Union. Your brothers and other world wide family and personal friends and their experiences and viewpoints, and last but not least, your recollections of your father's wartime experiences. This makes WNU unique in my experience. I like roots and you've got'um.
Keep on blogging.

Roger

With Russia held at arms distance, I especially appreciate the insights into Russia and it's people. Wish I knew how to say in Russian, "Wish there were more like you."

Carry on good man.

Many, it seems, like to cite Zero Hedge for "useful information" but perhaps knowing a bit more about them might raise some questions for those who blindly believe they are the Gods Bringing Light Unto the World

"Creamer a bad person"

No he is part of the system and therefore not a one-off.

He did not go to the White House 340 times for crumpets and tea.

Now on to what the Republicans are doing. They are using the Federal Social Security (SS) data base and bouncing it against the voter database. When a person is listed as deceased in the SS databases and they match a record in the voter database they are removed. there is nothing criminal nor racist in that.

Those databases are not racist.

If you want to know how databases work start here

Zerohedge has problems

One of the first was Simon Black. It was easy to get sick of his shinola.

Of late there has been the Strategic Culture Foundation getting posted on Zero Hedge with its pretentious name you know that it is bad. It is chock full of Lefties. They also have a heavy weighting of Russians. Bad Combo.

The economic Collapse Blog and a few others are very irritating. Other than the blog funding itself, I see very little good that the blog is doing except employing some shrinks some where.

Still the article posted was one Creamer's visits. I could have easily posted one from "The Hill" or some other newspaper. "The Hill" actually had the better headline. Biut no matter what I post Fred would ignore it (NYT or WApo, ...) or lambaste it (Washington Times, Free Beacon, ...).

Creamer did not act alone. He acted in cooperation with hundreds of other good Democrats in the White house and in the trenches.

And for some reason good Democrat Jan Schakowski stays with her bad boy Democrat, Dreamer.

I have found your website to be among the best news and information aggregates held by a private organization, let alone by a single individual. I thank you greatly for all the work and time you have put into this.

Additionally, I would like to thank you for keeping your comment section free and clear of most all censorship. It prevents echo-chambers from forming and lets face it: It is far better to have people incoherently screaming at each other online, than to have them doing anything off color in person.
