Warzone/The Drive: Canadian Auditors Slam Surplus Aussie Hornet Buy, Describe Fighter Force In Collapse
The watchdog says that buying old jets won't make up for a worrying lack pilots and maintainers to support the jets Canada has now.
Canada’s top parliamentary watchdog has released a scathing report regarding the purchase of second-hand F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets from Australia and broader plans to modernize the country’s air combat capabilities. The core complaints are that the new aircraft will still be obsolete after costly upgrades and that the service doesn’t have the manpower to fly and maintain the CF-18 Hornets it already has in service anyway. This, in turn, means that the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will still almost certainly lack the necessary resources to adequately meet its North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) commitments simultaneously for years to come.

WNU Editor: I would be writing a far more harsher editorial as well as blaming the previous government for this mess .... The Liberals promised new fighter jets. They delivered utter lunacy instead (National Post editorial).

What’s interesting to me is that Canada is one of 5 non EU members of NATO as a group that pays 80% of NATO’s defense expenditures. Yet even its armed forces are a weak shell of what it used to be. It’s not just Canada either. Obama nearly broke the back of the Navy and Airforce. Merkel has broken the Bundeswehr. May and Cameron broke the Royal Navy and Airforce. Recovery is in doubt because all these nations would rather spend money on welfare transfer payments than a proper defense. Especially if the United States will pay for their own defense needs anyway, as with Canada and Germany.
You buy votes with xfer payments or keep you military in shape.
Both provide $$$ to people. Except the soldier has to work for his $$$.
The welfare mama does not. The baby daddy does not officially live with the mama , but he knows who his kids are. Should not the state also know?
If Welfare programs lift less than 50% of kids out of poverty, then at some point that sequence is going to end with too many people in poverty. Xfer payments is not where it is at.
Hire foreign pilots like many nations
The F/A 18 is not stealthy and...?
We are told that stealth is prohibitively expensive and can bee seen anyway.
I'd rather have more tails.
Besides radar is not exactly stealth either ... or nimble.
As in Lebanon you have a weak country next to a powerful one Israeli, Canada being situated next to America is a huge threat to American's power and as such Americans want to keep Canada under heel. Canada is part of the Commonwealth of Nations therefore it has many natural allies across the world, less can be said for America. The Hornet is a piece of shit carrier craft that serves no use to Canada in any form, all it serves as is piece of mind to America that any incursion by Canada forces will be seen and easily dealt with, not much incentive for pilots.
Anon 604,
Your lies drip with honey.
Your lies have a certain cadence to them. It gives me an idea as to what you are and the discord you are trying to sow.
Your lies are so pathetic that they leave you naked. Maybe you should study up on planes and see what is different. You do not know. All you know is that you trying to get lucky throwing from beyond the 5 point line and you have no arm, no aim, and no game.
America could have taken Canada anytime from the 1850s on. We just choose not to. The British Empire was built on a shoe string. The Boers mauled them. The American one. Not so much.
If Canada were to fall apart due to Quebec, America might admit some provinces as new states. There was talk of that a quarter of a century ago. No American politician dreams of it. They are too busy knifing each other in the Swamp. Democrats knife Republicans and RINOS knife their own. Canada is on its own. Just the way it is.
There's a whiff of Kamloops about Anon 604
If it is Kamloops, you figure he would know better.
People have been talking about turn radius since WW1.
People know what planes can do. It is more than about just hardware. It is about logistics, training and doctrine, too. But I think Kamloops is just a rifleman and has gone no further and will go no further. Now he is just mired reading Leftist media like The Guardian and will be stuck in that swamp for life.
Canada could have easily bought Swedish or French planes. I think buying used planes was a cost cutting measure by a Leftist Prime Minister, who wants to cost savings to go to welfare programs.
Certainly Obumbler did not force Little Trudeau to buy the F/A 18s. Niether did Trump. He does not have that leverage on Trudeau. So the point is this maneuver is all Trudeau.
It was buy used; buy cheap and spend all the money to resettle returning jihadi veterans as war heroes or some other libewrla nightmare welfare program.
