French President Macron Calls Anti-Tax Protestors Thugs. Will Hold Consultations But Will Not Cut Fuel Taxes

France 24: France’s Macron announces national consultation after ‘yellow vest’ protests

Faced with violent anti-government protests, French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said he would not back down on controversial fuel tax hikes as he announced a blueprint for France's transition to cleaner energy.

The French president's energy roadmap comes as he is facing fractious "yellow vest" protests by citizens angry over fuel tax increases designed to finance green initiatives.

Macron acknowledged widespread anger expressed by protesters over the last 10 days, but said he would not back down on environmentally-friendly policies.

"What I've taken from these last few days is that we shouldn't change course because it is the right one and necessary," he said, adding: "The longer we wait, the worse the effects of climate change will be."

Hes lying for the start, the tax hike is a global green agenda to get people to stop driving. To fund their own totalitarian ideologies inwhich racism, sexism and ignorance are their go to polices inwhich they hope to use to remain in power indefinitely. We already see a worldwide decrease in innovation and an increase in a big brother state that punishes individualism and free thought.

Fact of the matter is, a litre of fuel is cheaper then a litre of water and if car's ran on water we as human would see our lifeblood destroyed, monopolized and used as a tool for depopulation. Battery and electronics destroy swarms of land as rare minerals are extracted and land left barren and desolate.

Humanity must come first, the rights of the people to travel, to be heard, to dictate their own futures. Global warming maybe something we have to deal with but the solution is not this. This is nothing more then the extraction of wealth from hard working people on an outrageous scale to bring about public unrest and to implement a police state inwhich everything we do, buy and earn is closely recorded, predicted and used to punish anyone that steps out of line.

While the above commenter reminds me of a weed smoking hippie sitting in a drum circle, I would at least submit this to back him up: I am almost certain that in a few years we'll find out that a) we learn something new about global warming/some technology eill spring up (it's worth hundreds of billions of dollars, if not trillions, to fix this problem and we know already how to tackle it at the micro and larger scale (hundreds to thousands of cubic metres an hour), but just need to scale it up. My guess will be generically engineered microbes/bacteria (which already work great in the lab) will fix it.. b) mich of the tax money raised will have been unwisely spent and some more will have gone "lost". It's always the car wegen academia and government meet. A big bloated mess

I'm still curious to see where he's going to get the money for his European Army...with just a little luck they will be in Moscow by July!

anon: alas, you may well be dreaming. Your view is that things are horrible but somehow man will invent, develop something and bingo all will be well...will that restore the ice sheets already melted and raising global waters? etc etcWhat tax money raied and is used for what? we have a leader who denies anything is taking place; lobby groups (Koch bdros) who pay big bucks to make sure the causes remain in place; and silly citizens who prefer instant gratification to facing and fixing the things.

Paris Climate treaty requires western nations torment their citizens with high costs, low supply and unreliable supply while the China's and India's prosper and give the west the finger. Macron is a fanatic committed to his ideals, after all, what fanatic ever reverses course when they are exposed to be wrong?

What kills me is stupidity of climate deniers. The earths climate is a moving target and always has been. Climates always change. Currently at .04% of the earths atmosphere, carbon is a trace gas, with no known causation with earths temps. Carbon levels have been many multiples of .04% in the past when life flourished on earth. Again there is no convincing proved connection with .04% of carbon in the atmosphere causing any problems on earth. Earths climate is fantastically more complicated than any set of equations known to man, the past proves it with model after model failing to be accurate in predicting long term climate trends.

One last fact. The earths climate has been warming since the end of the last Ice Age some 12,000 years ago. 12,0000 years of warming when for nearly 99.9% of that time there were no internal combustion engines and no liquid fossil fuels. Yet the earth warmed considerably from an icy northern hemisphere with kilometer thick ice sheets over nearly all North America. Man's recent contribution, if any, is too small to measure or worry about.

Yeah China's CO2 numbers over the last decade are staggering, but the narrative is that China is making great strides in renewable energy, so no one is going after them. I guess the same can be said for their exploitation of Africa and South America, it's just not the same as criticizing imperialistic USA, not sure exactly why that is.

Macron the elitist calls the working class French who protest $6 per gallon for gas "thugs". Wow!

Climate: try Pascal's bet
Assume you are right and do nothing. If you are right, all ok. If wrong, we die
Assume you are wrong and there is manmade climate change: You do something to try to make things better. If you make a mistake in this, not much lost but money. If climate change is Right and you do something, you come out Alive
The Pentagon; the group in Trump's Washington that studies this; the UN Commission, and some 98% of climate scientists say that there is massive climate change and that this time it is manmade. Now it is also such scientists that were able to show comate cycles before there was man so we respect that on that but not on present change?

All; it's easy to criticize a leader like this, and I mostly agree but we all forget a fundamental factor. This leader was elected thus your frustrations are aimed at the hoards who elected this idiot as well. That's the most scary part of this, am finding the same true here in the US as we elect Libs and Dems. Some are great people but the crazy people on the extreme; having a hard time with this!?
