NBC: Macron warns against nationalism in apparent rebuke of Trump at WWI commemoration
“Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” the French president said in remarks delivered just steps from Trump and more than 80 world leaders.
PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s “America first” approach to international affairs at a ceremony on Sunday commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
“Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” Macron said. “By saying, ‘Our interests first, who cares about the others,’ we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace and what is essential: its moral values."
Macron’s remarks, which he delivered just steps from Trump and more than 80 other world leaders, come on the heels of the U.S. president proudly declaring himself a “nationalist.”

WNU Editor: In these type of events you do not go political, but French President and globalist Macron decided to go down that route with his remarks that "nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism". As someone whose nationality is Russian and whose family fought against the German-Nazi invasion in the Second World War .... I learned at a very early age that Russians fought against the invaders not to protect the Soviet state or Stalin, they fought and sacrificed themselves primarily to defend mother-Russia. If that Russian nationalistic identity was not present during that time, and if the Germans were not as genocidal as they were, the Germans would NOT have been defeated in the eastern front during World War II.
Update: German leader Merkel joins French President Macron's criticisms of President Trump after the ceremony .... Trump, speaking at Armistice Day event outside Paris, honors fallen soldiers as Macron, Merkel take shots at him (FOX News/AP).

In fact Trump has done more to reinvigorate NATO than Obama. Obama pulled out all US armored divisions from Europe. Putin struck in Ukraine afterwards. Obama and the EU were blatantly interfering in the Ukrainian presidential election while at the same time drawing down NATO’s military strength. Obama is a EU saint while Trump is a EU bogeyman.
Now Macron lumps the USA in with China and Russia as threats to the EU. News to China I’m sure. News to Trump and the thousands of US troops currently engaged in defense exercises to practice defending EU members in and out of NATO. It’s the Macrons and Merkels of Europe tearing down the Atlantic alliance in not just words but deeds. The Paris Climate accord is ignored in practice by Germany and other EU nations. France, Germany and the EU are staunchly nationalist on trade. Unfortunately the EU are led by silly people unpopular in their own nation. The INF treaty was broken by Russia years ago. Macron knows the US won’t reintroduce ground base IRBMs to Europe so leaving that treaty is nothing more than status quoted.
Cue up the CHUDS.
"I learned at a very early age that Russians fought against the invaders not to protect the Soviet state or Stalin, they fought and sacrificed themselves primarily to defend mother-Russia."
That is why I can root for the Russians on film of say WW2.
They called it "The Great Patriotic War" and they fought for their nation not The Internationale. That is nationalism. A nation is a group of people with a common culture, language or ethnicity that stick together because they are related and.or trust one another.
To be loyal to that group nation is to be patriotic(i.e. nationalism).
Now that utter drek that are liberals are trying to define patriotism as loyalty to the IPCC, the UN, globalism or Marx.
Hint 411 is King Chud.
Macron who could not make it with girls his age and so made it with a woman 25 years his senior wanted to honor a NAZO collaborator during this ceremony.
Shit for brains - That is Macron
Nationalists are the ultimate patriots!
Where I live in newly blue San Diego, you can pretty easily tell political allegiances by the American flag hanging from the front porch...these days it may as well be the confederate flag.
Nationalism and patriotism are generally interchangeable terms. When people pretend that they aren't, they are trying to distinguish between good patriots and bad and make it clear they're the former, the best thing to be.
Great example of how far the left has strayed from reality.
