Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford: U.S. Military Needs More Money (and New Ideas)

Air Force Times: Saving America’s military edge will take money — and new ideas, Dunford says

HALIFAX, Canada — The U.S. military needs Congress to provide sustained defense spending to maintain its eroding military edge against Russia and China — but also needs to start innovating, its top uniformed officer said Saturday.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford’s remarks at the Halifax International Security Forum came days after a National Defense Strategy Commission report concluded the U.S. would, “struggle to win, or perhaps lose, a war against China or Russia.”

Citing that report, Dunford said whoever is in his job in 2023 and beyond will be at a disadvantage — “if we don’t change the trajectory we have been on, if we don’t have sustained, predictable, accurate levels of funding, if we don’t look carefully at the areas where we are challenged — in space, in cyberspace, in the maritime domain.”

Maybe if they tried some having some "sustained, predictable, and accurate levels of" financial management, as in accounting, audit and control of spending, holding suppliers to contractual commitments e.g., timely deliveries and pricing estimates, things they might have some credibility.

In the meantime they should be required to dip into the various slush funds especially the ones in the trillions of dollars that are unaccounted for.

Slush funds in the trillions of dollars??!!

Pretty wild claim. Still, I would appreciate any info regarding how you came to such a statement. I'm no fan of wasteful government endeavors and some of those that aren't.

Bob meant to say the slush fund is in the bazillions.

It is a technical term used by those whom pretend they worked in the financial industry once upon a time.

Making wild claims does not bug Bob. He is here to troll and troll hard.

I haven't read the full report but failure to support charges and adjustments suggests irregular and perhaps nefarious activities.

We are just living the consequences of the 8 years of Obama. A real disaster. This guy did more damage to the military than the 74 years of USSR.

If you are referring to the link I posted the lack of accounting discipline goes back to 1998.
