Budget Watchdog Says That The Next-Generation Fighter Jet For The U.S. Air Force Will Cost $300 Million (In 2018 Dollars)

Defense News: Budget watchdog warns this fighter could cost three times that of the F-35

WASHINGTON — A next-generation air superiority jet for the U.S. Air Force, known by the service as Penetrating Counter Air, could cost about $300 million in 2018 dollars per plane, the Congressional Budget Office states in a new study.

At that price, PCA would be more than three times that of the average F-35A jet, which is set at about $94 million to capture both the expense of early production lots and the decline in cost as the production rate increases, according the report, which predicts the cost of replacing the Air Force’s aircraft inventory from now until 2050.

This sum, while not an official cost estimate from the Pentagon, represents the first time a government entity has weighed in on the potential price tag for PCA.

I doubt the Pentagon will base a next generation F-22 replacement on the designs of the past. AI, hypersonics, drones and lasers will revolutionize designs when you get out to 2030 and beyond. Manned aircraft will be there but not exclusively when it comes to air to air combat.

Thats laughable

Truth be told. Air combat missions will probably have a severely diminished role in the future. Even with major powers.

Ground based radars will probably be the only real option to detect the next generation of stealth aircraft because of the size and power requirements.

Although, I do see long range interception jobs sticking around for quite a while as standoff weapons have been getting better.

$300,000,000 per plane. They could probably do better getting them made in China.

We could get better health and elder care for Bob Huntley, if we sent him 1st class to Beijing and put him up in a senior facility there.

We would pay 1/3rd or a 1/7th of what we are paying now.

Think of the cost savings.

I am a Canadian. That means I have excellent healthcare provided by my government, albeit paid for by me over the years through taxes). But even I I hadn't paid anything I would still have been covered. I have three kids that didn't cost a dime when they were born in the hospital. I had by-pass, 23 years ago. Not only didn't it cost me a dime but I actually made $500 on the deal through an employer who provide a healthcare program, free, that paid $100 a day for the hospital stay. You know in case I wanted to give my kids gas money when they visited me.

Elder care. When I get there the government provides that too but since I am only 73 I won't be needing that for another 10 years or so.

One of the reasons we have health care is because a third party back in the 1950s made a deal with one of the main parties to form a coalition government and healthcare was their price.

You know, I don't even pay for prescriptions. Not one dime and for me they cost about $4,000 a year.

How are things going with and your "family" living in the land of endless for profit war?

I did not say that you did not get stuff for free,

I said that the Canadian government or the Canadian people could get a cost savings by shipping you to China for your elder care.

They could get the same care for 15% of the price as in Canada. They could take the 85% savings and use it for immigrants illegal or legal.

Why fight such a transfer? After all your ancestors are not from Canada.

BH,

PS: You are so cute when you are mad.

Just hate to be shown up.

Come on. Take one for the team. Get you health care in China and let Trudeau spend the balance on someone south of the American border.

Dear Anon

your comments are a reason many of us no longer post to this site...we do not want to associate with stupid people who only insult and belittle others

Anon 823

Boinb Huntley was bellyaching, bemoaning and gnashing his teeth about the projected 300 million price tag for a future fighter jet for a country he does not live in. Make sense?

So I did one thing. I deflated his balloon (Anon 823 are you Bob?) by pointing out one thing. The difference in the cost of business in China versus the US. This is what you call mean. Well then Anon 823. Cry me a fucking rive dude. When you are done creating one rive we can move on to the Sahara and make it green.

They moved manufacturing jobs to China due to the 7 to 1 or 21 to 1 wage differential. Why not service jobs like nursing too? Of course that would entail the recipient of said service overseas. It is just a logical progression. I figure the same rich Democrats (Jane Harman, Feinstein, etc) that move job overseas could move their aged voters overseas for elder care as they pocket ever more money and invite ever more immigrants legal and illegal into the nation.

Talk about being mean. I can write what Bob Huntley is going to say before he writes it. I know all the anti(s) that he is into. Know basis in fact, but he is down for the struggle.

Bob Huntley does a good job of insulting anyone, who is white, European, conservative, etc. That is when they is not calling on them to be executed (I got a screen print of his clever post). Maybe that is why conservatives do not post as much as liberals at this site. They are tired of the liberal pile on. Or have you not read WNU's words?>

You are obsessed with China. I'd suggest you move there yourself but then they most likely wouldn't want you, you snotgoblinscrotumscratcher.

It seems as though the Huffington Post is obsessed with labor rates also.

The Huffington Post may be less obsessed with relative labor rates than you are with a military budget and the cost of doing business in a country of which you are not a citizen.

And Bob, we all know you are divorced or separated (story varies with each post) and life is hard for you, but quit projecting.

Your only constancy is you hatred for all things Western.

About your life circumstance everything you say (to make a point) is a lie although you say it is not, like a weasel.

I have never said that what I post (to you that is) is not a lie. In fact at one point I said something along the lines of you are gullible and believe all of the crap I tell you most usually in response to some idiotic post of yours attacking me and what I said. Try putting together a coherent and responsible response, if you don't like what I post, if you can.

I wouldn't use the word "hate" but what I really dislike is someone, (you can also read country) that pretends to be the epitome of good, while the actual experience is that they are nowhere near as good as they like to pretend they are and who, in fact, have been down right criminal in some of their actions, all the time while condemning others.

If you don't like this comment too bad but it is not only what a lot of the world believes but also what a lot of Americans believe too.

From the broken English you have displayed from time to time can I ask what country are you from?
