Former Canadian Diplomat Is Detained In China Days After Arrest Of Huawei CFO In Canada

Sydney Morning Herald: Former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig detained in China after arrest of Huawei CFO Sabrina Meng Wanzhou in Canada

* Move comes after police in Canada arrested Sabrina Meng Wanzhou, the CFO of China’s Huawei Technologies, on December 1 at the request of US authorities
* It’s not yet clear what reasons have been given for Kovrig’s detention

A former Canadian diplomat has been detained in China at the same time as a Canadian court weighs whether to grant bail to a top Chinese technology executive who is being held in Vancouver pending a US extradition request.

The International Crisis Group (ICG) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that it was “aware of reports that its North East Asia Senior Adviser, Michael Kovrig, has been detained in China”.

WNU Editor: The Chinese legal system is very different from the legal system of the West. All that I can say is beware if you are a high-profile Canadian in China. Until the case of Huawei CFO's Sabrina Meng Wanzhou is resolved, you will have a bulls-eye on your back.

This is Bad, but just remember during times of war, which this clearly is, people are sacrificed. Has anyone played chess without loosing at least a few pieces. You may not like the hoarseness of this but if we weaken with one individual than were done for. China needs standing up to period!

President Trump has raised the risks of doing business in China. That raises the costs without ever increasing a tariff. The Chinese are experts at raising cost of doing business without raising a tariff, about time an American President plays just as ruff. The Trump agenda is to bring back from China American manufacturing from hardware to software and this indictment is a step in the right direction, assuming of course the charges have merit.
