French President Emmanuel Macron met with union bosses, politicians and business leaders on Monday as he prepared to speak to the nation amid violent protests and calls for him to resign.
Macron's televised address, due at 8pm local time (7pm GMT), will mark the first time he has spoken in more than a week despite riots gripping Paris and spreading to other cities.
As the French president prepared to face down his critics, Russia was forced to deny claims it had whipped up the riots on social media, calling the claim 'slanderous.'
