President Donald Trump took to Twitter Thursday to defend his sudden announcement to pull U.S. troops out of Syria – and warned ISIS it was 'doomed!' if the terror group hit at the U.S.
Trump issued the warning just hours after proclaiming 'we have defeated ISIS in Syria.' He also said Russian, Iranian, and Turkish forces who remain would continue to battle ISIS. Despite the president's claim the military assesses thousands of ISIS fighters remain.

Time for others to finally fight...God, I love this President
I kind of like it too but then again all his advisers seem to be against it. But my guess is that they'd want him to stay forever. If he would have announced "they'll come home in 2 years" (or whatever timeline) it wouldn't make a difference. They'd just wait for the US to leave and lay low till then.
If anyone can tell me why it'd be a)good for the US to stay and b) how long, I might change my mind
Realistically though, without killing all Russians and Assad forces over there or sending tens of thousands of American troops,we couldn't even negotiate a split of the country
Essentially POTUS is correct. We do not want to nor can we be policeman of the world and these in grates do not appreciate us anyway.
With that said he says he is building the most powerful military in the world. I see no real evidence of this. If so, we should be able to "doom" ISIS should they hit us. In any event, we need to be properly deployed so we can actually defend ourselves if we are attacked.
He states that Russia, Iran, and Syria aren't happy about this. This does not seem to be the case which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We do need to improve our relations with Russia and I'd like to get the Iran dispute moved to a UN Tribunal or something similar to solve once and for all. (I've explained elsewhere why this isn't feasible right now.) This decision to redeploy, if actually implemented, could belp greatly in these areas. There's much upside potential to doing so and no downside risk.
Unlike in Iraq when we redeployed the Russian, Syrian, and Iranian forces can actually fight unlike the Iraqi military. They should be able to "mop up." In fact, ISIS began to really suffer losses once the Russians entered the fight or so it seems. This may not be an accident.
Then there's general Mattis. I haven't read his resignation letter yet. Trump was very classy towards him. I do hope general Mattis was equally classy. If he really believes in an ill defined and open ended commitment to Syria, he may not be the Patriot I deemed him to be and the support he had of the men he led may have been misplaced.
Trump is accused of conducting foreign policy via Tweet without his advisors. This isn't the problem. The problem is "advisors" and assorted others are conducting rogue foreign policy that often pulls in opposite directions of the duly elected POTUS. Those who would do this need to be opposed as they undermine American economic and security interests.
Bottom line: to anyone paying attention this announcement by POTUS is not surprising. Anyone who was surprised isn't or hasn't been paying attention. In fact, the announcement should have been expected.
