Military Times: Russia asked to joint operate a US base in Syria. Coalition says hard pass.

Russian officials have reportedly floated the idea of jointly running a U.S.-controlled corridor known as Al Tanf, located on the Iraq-Syria border near Jordan, where U.S. troops are garrisoned.

The American-led coalition to defeat the Islamic State, though, said they are not interested.

Gen. Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian military’s General Staff, said the presence of American military bases on Syrian territory is a major unresolved issue for his forces.

“Let’s take Al Tanf, for example," he said Wednesday at a foreign policy briefing. “The United States established the so-called 55-km security zone around this community, and illegal armed groups continue their terrorist activity under its cover, making periodic sorties against the government forces.”

WNU Editor: I am surprised that Russia made this proposal. I am not surprised that the U.S.-led coalition said no.

Thats the Spec Ops corridor into Syria. I've seen it time and time again where special operations have been conducted within the ranges of this base. The airstrike on the Syrian convoy heading towards it highlighted that US will not surrender it. Good on Russia for trying, but American - Russian relations are extremely bias, the propergander ran in the US is all consuming.

Trump wanted good relations.

Sick, twisted Democrats pointed out that Trump was against sanctions. He signed them, but was against them.

Now we are marching to war.

Gee, thanks dummycrats!

This is the assumption of a number of people. I do it believe it to be true that a number of people for a variety of reasons went out of their way to stoke conflict with Russia. Unfortunately "sick and twisted" may well be an accurate description of such people.

As to Trump, I find no evidence that he opposes tough policies toward Russia. In fact, the opposite seems to be the case. Also, judging from the body language Russian and Chinese leadership resoect and even fear Trump. As for other US leaders, not so much.

Unfortunately this seems an accurate description of Tillerson. Trump called it correctly if in fact he said those things. As I recall, when he was removed from his office he didn't have the decency to slink off. He had to give a long winded speech.
