Washington Free Beacon: Russia Dispatching Blackjack Bombers to Venezuela
Nuclear-capable jets to bolster leftist Maduro regime.
Russia is deploying nuclear-capable Tu-160 Blackjack bombers to Venezuela this week as part of an increasingly provocative pattern of bomber training flights, according to American defense officials.
At least two Blackjacks will fly from a strategic forces air base in Russia to Venezuela as part of a series of training exercises that will include long-range refueling, said officials familiar with Russian plans for the flight.
The bomber foray to South America will be Russia's seventh training flight for Blackjack bombers in the past three months.

People need to relax. World war will not happen over a failed state like Venezuela. Nor will it happen over a dispute over Ukraine.
There are massive structural reasons why there will be no (or at least severely diminished) cold war with Russia again. And there is no chance in hell that it would turn into a hot war. The cold war was, most of the time, quite far from actual war. Today, is not nearly as bad as the best days of the cold war.
As for the Chinese. They, for the moment at least, do not have the force projection capability required to do jack-shit in South America.

Venezuela has hocked its citizens to Russia and China and the obvious way to pay off is to grant them carte blanche for military basing rights. R and C are kicking the tires to see what is possible with these visits. How much to build infrastructure to support base operations? Long term China needs bases closer to the USA to intimidate the USA the way they are from US bases in Japan and South Korea. China can base or operate carrier strike groups from Venezuela for instance.
