The Guardian: Putin threatens arms race if US dumps nuclear treaty
Russia would also build new medium-range missiles if the US were to do so, says president
Vladimir Putin has threatened that Russia will develop new missiles banned by the intermediate-range nuclear forces treaty if the US exits the pact and pursues an arms buildup of its own.
The Russian president’s remarks came one day after the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, said Moscow was in “material breach” of the cold war-era treaty and issued a 60-day ultimatum for Russia to correct the alleged violations. Otherwise, he said, the US would quit the 1987 accord, considered a milestone in reducing the threat of a nuclear war in Europe.

WNU Editor: The last thing that the world needs right now is another nuclear arms race. But with both sides not even talking, I have doubts that the INF treaty can be saved. My only hope is that both sides do not make the decision to expand their nuclear arsenals.

The brutal fact is the US alone among the nuclear powers is prohibited from deploying INF banned missiles. China, North Korea, Iran aren't prohibited and do deploy. According to the Obama Admin in the past and now Trump Admin, Russia has been breaking out of the treaty since before 2014. This is intolerable for the US.
The Europeans are scared stiff of having to spend more on defense. They are going slow in the expectation Trump is defeated in 2020 and back to business as usual. As we see today the EU takes a different view than the NATO ministers. Its the old trick the Germans and French use, that the EU is "independent" and NATO is different yet its the same countries!
Watch the EU denounce Trump in the next few months while negotiating with the Russians. A deal, secret or not, will be the EU refuses to allow American ground based missiles on EU soil as long as Russia freezes in place. Of course this leaves the US a mile wide lane to redeploy its German bases back to the US.
Haha, ok Mr. Putin, you want Russia to loose another arms race and go bankrupt again?
Don't make threats that we all know how it ends. China is learning that the hard way right now.
Wow, another nuclear arms race.. because Russia and the US are not talking.. and why are they not talking? Because for 2 years Democrats scream Hitler/Traitor/Russia collusion and "impeach Trump". Boy, I can't wait until Mueller's report comes out and the little parrot gets to nibble on its Russia bones, full of RUSSIAAA goodness ;)

Theresa May and Merkel would have been put out to pasture except there is no leader to take their place or so they say.
Those two opulent harridans warn that, if they are ousted an extreme left-winger will take over.
That is they are holding their political parties, voters and countries hostage so they can remain in office 1/2 year or so longer.
Macron is an empty suit. The Yellow Jackets are a mix form across the spectrum. They true believers on the Left want the carbon taxes except that it hurts them. Rescind the taxes and they will still be unhappy. Macron can satisfy no one. He is merely buying a few weeks or a few months.

Assuming China, Iran, and North Korea are deploying weapons we are unable to and Obama and Trump are correct in stating that Russia is in violation of the treaty this would indeed be an intolerable situation for us. Even if everything is currently perfect we still should not limit ourselves in terms of our nuclear deterrent.
While we cannot "know" the outcome of a war until it happens, based upon what I believe to be a careful analysis I think there is a strong possibility that America's conventional military capabilities are inferior to those of other major world powers such as Russia and China. If so, we are going to need to rely more on a credible nuclear deterrent than they will as our margin for error is less than theirs is.
