"For the long term, given that the Air Force plans to fly the F-22 well into the 2060s, these weapons upgrades are engineered to build the technical foundation needed to help integrate a new generation of air-to-air missiles as they emerge in coming years."
Made by Lockheed Martin and Boeing, the F-22 uses two Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 turbofan engines with afterburners and two-dimensional thrust vectoring nozzles, an Air Force statement said. It is 16-feet tall, 62-feet long and weighs 43,340 pounds. Its maximum take-off weight is 83,500.
The Air Force and Lockheed Martin have now “validated” several new weapons on the F-22 Raptor to equip the stealth fighter with more long-range precision attack technology, a wider targeting envelope or “field of regard” and new networking technology enabling improved, real-time “collaborative targeting” between aircraft.

Regardless, I do wish we had bought more of the air superiority fighters at the time. In the eyes of the administration buying them, America was going to be THE global hegemonic power for the next half century. This lead to poor practices by many in the upper echelons of power. Developing and buying expensive weapons for a system that is heavily overstretched because the aircraft was too expense for the times is one of them.

They make bad decisions based upon that bad information. I figured out slightly over 20 years ago that America was no global hegemon. Now our military leaders are being forced to admit that victory over Russia or China cannot be guaranteed. Reality has now become so glaring that it is becoming harder to blithely ignore it as they did in the past.
Even if we assumed that America was a hegemon at the time which is a dubious and false assumption but for the sake of argument it was, it would be the height of hubris to assume that this was going to last 50 YEARS. Americans typically are not prone to arrogance but the leadership may be. Perhaps we should have invested more in these fighters at the time. Also, in the past, our finances were much better. As such, even if we could restart production I don't think we would be able to afford more of these. Keeping the ones we have is going to be problematic enough anyway.
There really wasn't a hegemony. Other parties stood by while America bumbled about stupidly. As the expression goes, "Give them just enough ripe to hang themselves." Our leaders are among the world's dumbest.
