Sputnik: Erdogan - Turkey to Buy 120 F-35 Jets Amid Speculation Deal Will Be Canceled

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that Ankara intended to buy 120 US-made F-35 fighter jets amid speculations that the transfer might be halted.

"We will buy 120 F-35 aircraft produced by the United States. Some of the components for the aircraft are produced in Turkey," Erdogan said, speaking at a rally in Istanbul, which was aired by the NTV broadcaster.

The president's statement comes after Erdogan's aide Ibrahim Kalin told reporters on Saturday on the sidelines of the Doha Forum that Ankara had doubts that the United States may cancel the deliveries of its F-35 fighters to Turkey if the latter buys the Russian air defense system S-400.

So, going with a miserly $80 million dollars per aircraft. That is $9.6 Billion dollars without sustainment costs and weapons purchases. If only Turkey was a better ally, but it is not.

I say screw em'. They played around with stupid political game to try to lower the cost of purchasing the Patriot Missile System. They instead got stuck with the S-400 because of their ego. The S-400 being a system that didn't even match what they originally wanted.

120 F-35's will allow Turkey to intimidate every country from Israel to Iraq. It will tip the balance of power against Israel's Air Force.

Turkey is right now launching air and ground attacks against Syria and Iraq. They regularly call for violence against Israel and host groups dedicated to killing all the Jews. In addition Turkey regularly threatens to attack Kurds and their embedded American troops who are fighting ISIS ins Syria.

I have doubts Turkey receives an F-35 on Turkish soil in the next 10 years. Besides Japan is going to increase their buy of F-35's by over 100, that is a new increase which matches Turkey's planned buy. So no impact on production if Turkey never receives a single F-35.

This is all about building support for keeping the deal among US lawmakers. It's a boast. It's Erdogans way of saying, "think about all the jobs you'll have."

I agree. How would turkey pay for that order anyways? ^^
Plus. .if the deal goes through there'll likely have to be substantial changes made to those planes because Erdogan will send them directly to Russia and China for twice the price. .to "look at them"...a year later, china releases new model which looks oh so similar. But not theft! !how dare you think chinese are thieves!!! Bow, bow!!!
