Ukraine To Lift Martial Law On December 26 If There Is No Russian Invasion

Poroshenko talked to reporters in Kyiv

DW: Ukraine to lift martial law if there is no invasion

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has pledged not to extend martial law unless there is a large-scale Russian attack in the coming days. Poroshenko has yet to confirm that he will run for president in March 2019.

Ukrainian authorities would allow the martial law to expire on December 26 barring a Russian invasion, President Petro Poroshenko told reporters on Sunday.

Last month, Kyiv declared a 30-day martial law order in ten Ukrainian regions after the Russian navy seized three Ukrainian vessels in the Kerch Strait.

"Unless there is a large-scale aggression, an intrusion of Russian military forces into Ukrainian territory beyond the line of conflict (with pro-Russian rebels) and the Crimea administrative border, martial law will not be prolonged," Poroshenko said.

WNU Editor: There is going to be no Russian invasion. But what will inflamed tensions was Ukrainian President Poroshenko's remarks today that Ukrainian counterintelligence will be checking all Ukrainian state employees for relatives with Russian citizenship. Since almost all Russian-Ukrainians have relatives in Russia, this is probably the first step before they are purged from the government.

Effectively purging an ethnic minority from government power?

Poroshenko really is trying to inflame tensions before elections. Christ alive, what a power hungry idiot.

It should be noted, I was nominally on Ukraine's side before hearing about this. Now, I am not to sure if there IS a good side to support here.

Interesting, I have been following this via another source, which I have provided links for here on this blog, and all of a sudden it's like; no invasion. Must be a lot of confusion out there about what's going on. Let's not forget that Russia has staged troops on the border, so it's not all Ukraine's fault for driving this issue.
